We’re all a little guilty of sorting ourselves into groups to gain a sense of belonging, and personality quizzes are one of the most popular ways to do so.

Though it was originally designed for career planning and aptitude testing, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test is now used broadly to get to know yourself better as well as the people around you. Though the test isn’t necessarily rooted in scientific fact, specific characters, pieces of media, or fashion statements just scream a certain MBTI type, which is why we put together our full list of summer fashion trends you should try based on your MBTI!

Don’t already know your MBTI type? No problem, take the quiz here and then come back to check out your 2022 summer fashion trend.

1. ISTJ

As the “Inspector,” your code means introverted, sensing, thinking, and judgment. You’re likely very detail-oriented, realistic, observant, logical, orderly, organized, and practical. You might be a bit judgy if something goes against your gut feelings, but your logical heart will lead you in the right direction.

We think you’d rock the “model-off-duty” look known as the Clean Girl Aesthetic. You’ve got it together, you might bullet journal, and you’re definitely a minimalist. Classic denim, crisp, monochromatic blouses and tees, super simple matching sets, oversized blazers, and dainty gold jewelry should be in heavy rotation. The Clean Girl Aesthetic is relaxed and made up of neutral colors, with the exception of using a bright color for a statement purse or shoe from time to time.

2. ISTP

As the “Crafter,” your code means introverted, sensing, thinking, and perceiving. You’re probably action-oriented, self-confident, realistic, logical, and a risk-taker. Some may claim you’re noncommittal but that’s just because you’d rather “carpe diem” it and live in the now.

Traditional, feminine, and dainty, embrace your inner milkmaid and try out Cottagecore this summer! Even if you don’t find yourself in a meadow any time soon, adopting some Cottagecore staples like ruffle sleeves, ruching, sweetheart necklines, peasant blouses, and linen overalls would be a very sweet look for you. Splurge? Go Hill House Home or LoveShackFancy. Save? Cider, Lulus, ASOS, and Urban Outfitters have got you covered.

3. ISFJ

As the “Protector,” your code means introverted, sensing, feeling, and judging. You tend to be reserved, warm-hearted, responsible, and have an eye for detail. You might be more traditional and a creature of habit, so major moves in your daily routine won’t really fly.

Your look is Soft Girl for sure! This hyperfeminine vibe is pastels, playful matching sets, cropped cardigans, milkmaid dresses, and chunky tennis shoes. Anything dainty, delicate, and girl-next-door will help you achieve this look. Top it all off with a healthy dusting of blush and some extra glossy lipgloss, and you’re good to go.

4. ISFP

As the “Artist,” your code means introverted, sensing, feeling, and perceiving. You’re likely loyal, reserved, practical, and hands-on, and you’re a doer. Since you’re so in tune with the world around you, you lean toward fine aesthetics instead of the abstract.

Inspired by the Renaissance, your summertime aesthetic is Angelcore. You should look for dainty, angelic, and ethereal designs to adorn your body like the Greek goddess you are deep down. Keywords to find your next fit are things like satin, tulle, lace, pearls, and anything with angelic or classic art imagery. Your dresses could be as slinky as a satin midi or as fluffy as a tulle fit and flare!

5. INFJ

As the “Advocate,” your code means introverted, intuitive, feeling, and judging. You’re described as focused, artistic, sensitive, idealistic, and a dreamer. That being said, you’re definitely also a doer who can think big picture but execute on your plans.

Hey INFJ, take a chance with Twee! Wait, what’s Twee? This look is a mid-2000s revival heavily influenced by the Indie music scene of the time. You’ll want to look for British prep pieces like Peter Pan collars, vintage skirts, high-waisted skirts, overall dresses, Mary Jane flats, loafers, and glasses which you may or may not get called out for wearing despite lacking a prescription.

6. INFP

As the “Mediator,” your code means introverted, intuitive, feeling, and perceiving. You’re probably sensitive, investigative, idealistic, devoted, and a big picture thinker. Details aren’t much of your thing, so keeping things effortlessly simple is a top priority of yours.

We think you’d look great in Dark Academia. You might not be into chess, cards, or poetry, but this aesthetic is based on timeless, flattering looks. Much of Dark Academia fashion is a throwback to the ‘40s and ‘50s, with items like turtlenecks, collared shirts, houndstooth, plaid, and vests in earthy, muted tones. Bonus bookish-points if you add on a messenger bag and a statement pendant.

7. INTJ

As the “Architect,” your code means introverted, intuitive, thinking, and judging. You’re known to be self-confident, good at listening, abstract, and a perfectionist. You value control over your life and probably plan things out well in advance.

You should give Coastal Grandmother a shot! Wishing you were in the Hamptons instead of like…anywhere else? Pop on a breezy button-up blouse, linen pants, and wrap a chunky sweater around your shoulders to embrace this vibe. Other keywords to help you with shopping this trend are things like straw hats, fisherman sandals, sailor sweaters, pearls, and clogs. You might not be a classy grandmother living on the coast, but you can definitely feel inspired by their casual elegance!

8. INTP

As the “Thinker,” your code means introverted, intuitive, thinking, and perceiving. You’re an abstract-thinker, independent, loyal, affectionate, objective, and thoughtful. You’ve probably never been someone who follows the rules, but your reserved demeanor keeps you from being too loudly rebellious.

Rosé all day? Nah, crochet all day! Crochet is an effortless way to add unique pieces to your wardrobe and make a statement without calling too much attention to yourself. Long gone are the days where crochet sat on a dining table. Now you can adorn your body in crochet dresses, bucket hats, bathing suits, matching sets, cover-ups, and of course a good tote. This knit look is a bit of a ‘70s throwback if you go for a funky, colorful pattern, but you can also keep it simple and sweet with neutrals.

9. ESTP

As the “Persuader,” your code means extraverted, sensing, thinking, and perceiving. You’re likely impulsive, dramatic, adaptable, observant, energetic, and action-oriented. Your competitive nature leads you to feel empowered by almost any challenge.

We think you’d shine in the Old Money Aesthetic. No “Summertime Sadness” here beyond you giving off total Lana Del Rey vibes. Your trend revolves around pieces that ooze generational wealth that might be worn by someone from the Vanderbilts or the British Royal Family. Not actually made of old money? Your local secondhand shops or online thrift markets like the RealReal will be your bestie. Look for linen, loafers, cashmere, boucle suits, pearls, and of course, headscarves.

10. ESTJ

As the “Director,” your code means extraverted, sensing, thinking, and judging. You’re probably dependable, traditional, realistic, hard-working, and self-confident. Though some people think you’re bossy, it’s probably just because you have high standards.

Your summertime aesthetic is in, and it’s Country Club Chic. Don a pleated mini skirt, clean your white sneakers, and don’t forget about a cozy half-zip to wear over your polo. You should try rocking equal parts preppy and athletic, and you’ll have everyone wondering if you’ve got a tennis lesson at 2 p.m. Other keywords while shopping would be sweater vest, loafers, cable knits, polo dresses, and baseball caps.

11. ESFP

As the “Performer,” your code means extraverted, sensing, feeling, and perceiving. You tend to be a people-person, optimistic, spontaneous, practical, and easily bored. Routine doesn’t come naturally to you so you love opportunities to learn how to walk in others’ shoes.

Go bold this summer with prints of all kinds! Mammal skin prints like zebra, cow, leopard, and cheetah can be fun, but don’t neglect the reptilian snakeskin or croc looks. Animal print slip dresses would be perfect for summer weather, but you can find prints on anything from bikinis, denim corsets, jumpsuits, rompers, boots, denim shorts, mini skirts, and Stetson hats. The real question is…are you bold enough to try print on print?

12. ESFJ

As the “Caregiver,” your code means extroverted, sensing, feeling, and judging. You’re likely conscientious, kind, outgoing, organized, dependable, and a careful observer. You tend to look to your friends, family, loved ones, and the communities you are a part of for approval and appreciation.

We think you should throw it back to Y2K this summer! Get decked out in cropped tees, monogrammed everything, bright corsets, bedazzled accessories, big scrunchies, and maybe even denim-on-denim…if you dare. Didn’t get to embrace the Juicy Couture tracksuit in the original Y2K wave? Perhaps now is your time to shine in this 2000s staple.

13. ENFP

As the “Champion,” your code means extraverted, intuitive, feeling, and perceiving. You’re probably spontaneous, warm, creative, empathetic, caring, and charismatic. You like to lead but might get stressed out if you dreamed a bit too big.

Show off a bit of skin (tastefully) with some stylish cutouts this summer! Your trend is everywhere right now from side slits on body con minis to geometric cuts taken out of bodysuits. Cutouts are perfect for swimsuits where you’re already letting your skin bask in the sunlight, and they can add intrigue to maxi dresses. Our biggest bit of advice: don’t forget about the potentially tragic tan-lines if you soak up too much sun.

14. ENFJ

As the “Giver,” your code means extraverted, intuitive, feeling, and judging. You’re likely organized, empathetic, encouraging, outgoing, affectionate, and very social. Sometimes you might be a bit too hard on yourself, but that’s just because you need a bit of me-time after being overly devoted to others.

This one could get a bit risqué if not done right, but your summer 2022 trend is super sheer! Cleverly layer a sheer top over a cute cami, drape a sheer kimono over your sundress, or find a blouse with subtle sheer details. You might also want to try netted knitwear à la the crochet revival we’ve been seeing everywhere lately. A super sheer dress could also be layered on top or underneath a solid bodycon dress or used as a coverup over your bikini.

15. ENTP

As the “Debater,” your code means extroverted, intuitive, thinking, and perceiving. You tend to value knowledge, be innovative, creative, a great conversationalist, and love debate. You’re big on knowledge and love to constantly engage in new ideas and projects.

We think you should give catsuits a try for your summertime look! Catsuits are an all-in-one way to be dolled up with very little effort. Try out a catsuit in floral prints if that’s your thing, or maybe look for crushed velvet or satin fabrics. Whatever color, pattern, or texture you pick, you’ll definitely rock this jumpsuit-meets-sexy fashion statement this summer.

16. ENTJ

As the “Commander,” your code means extraverted, intuitive, thinking, and judging. You’re probably assertive, energized, well-organized, self-assured, decisive, and a strong leader. Planning things out might feel predictable to some, but for you, it’s important to take charge of your own life.

This summer, bright clothing is set to be your thing. Whether you’re dressing in a nearly-neon oversized button-down or a matching set, you should look for bright pieces to reflect your cheery demeanor. Look electrifying in bright yellow or green slides, try a hot-pink flutter-sleeve dress, or stay cool in a bright blue satin top. Bonus points if you get matchy-matchy with more than one article of clothing in the same shade!

Closing Thoughts

Adopting an entirely new aesthetic could become an expensive hobby, so be mindful of the choices you make when you go to check out. That being said, don’t let yourself feel discouraged from trying out a trend that you think would bring you joy – after all, wearing clothes that make you feel happy and confident can totally put you in a sunny state of mind!
