What Wholesome-Girl Hobby Are You, Based On Your Enneagram?

I bet we can guess your favorite hobby based on your enneagram type. If we’re wrong, it *might* just be a hint that it's a hobby you should look into in 2023.

Maybe you’ve run into Enneagram personality typing once or twice on your social media. Maybe one day you were suddenly bombarded with them and haven’t really seen much of them since (thanks, Instagram algorithm). Either way, chances are you’ve seen them before, and just in case you don’t already know, Enneagram typing is simply another entertaining tool like Myers-Briggs you can use to help understand yourself, and other people, better. A word of warning, though, unlike Myers-Briggs, Enneagram doesn't shy away from telling you the negative tendencies of your personality. And though it’s hard to hear, I’ve found it incredibly refreshing and helpful in the self-improvement arena.

If you haven’t yet, I recommend taking this Enneagram test to help you figure out your type. Hopefully, though, you’ll identify strongly with one of the types below and with one of its “wings,” which are the types directly above or below the type you most strongly identify with. Everyone has a dominant type, and everyone has at least one wing. Additionally, if you’re currently mentally stressed, or not doing well, you may type incorrectly. So, just make sure to take the test only once you’re in a good headspace.

So, let’s find out, what wholesome-girl hobby are you? Which of these hobbies would suit you best, based on your personality?

Type 1: The Reformer – Volunteering

You’re an ethical perfectionist. To you, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do each and every little thing, and if you’re not careful, you can find yourself being judgmental and critical of others, even if what they’re doing isn’t technically wrong, it’s just different from how you’d do it. When you’re mentally healthy, you can find yourself relaxing into spontaneity and joy, but when you’re unhealthy, you can find yourself plagued by irrational thoughts directed at yourself and others.

Your desire to do good above all else is inspiring, and that’s why volunteering should (if it’s not already) be your hobby. It’s something wholesome to its core, and we can’t help but smile when we think about you being so fulfilled by something so generous.

  • Deepest desire: To be a force for good.

  • Deepest fear: To be corrupt or evil.

Type 2: The Helper – Baking

You’re a nurturer at heart. You love taking care of others and take a lot of pride in your ability (and capacity) to do so. Though, if you don't feel appreciated, you can easily fall into feelings of martyrdom. This is because you’re also a bit of a people pleaser. You can’t stand it when people don’t like you, and this can make it difficult for you to maintain boundaries (maybe if I reach out/give/help just one more time, then they’ll finally like me). However, once you learn to accept that “You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there's still going to be somebody who hates peaches” (Dita Von Teese), you’ll find yourself much happier and much healthier. You are your most content when your friends and loved ones feel cared for, and that’s why baking (or, overall just nourishing others) is your wholesome-girl hobby.

  • Deepest desire: To feel loved.

  • Deepest fear: To be unwanted.

Type 3: The Achiever – Health and Fitness

You’re competitive, but not just in one or two areas – no, life is a competition for you, and you’re in it to win it. It’s exhausting for obvious reasons and definitely has its drawbacks, but there's also a lot of good to be found. You’re competent, determined, a hard worker, and ambitious. No goal is too small (or too big) for you to chase, and if you can dream it, you’ll achieve it. You’re also very practical.

However, you also tend to be very image conscious. You want to be admired, you want to impress others, and you can’t stand the thought of others finding you wanting in some capacity or another. This can lead you to either blind yourself to your weaknesses or be overly critical of your weaknesses (which is actually a form of self-rejection). At your healthiest, however, you’re authentic and self-accepting. You recognize that everyone has weak areas, and you’re content to be a work in progress.

That’s why health and fitness is your wholesome hobby. You understand that you can’t just look your best, you have to feel your best too.

  • Deepest desire: To feel valuable.

  • Deepest fear: To be worthless.

Type 4: The Individualist – Romanticizing Your Life

You’re highly creative, intuitive, incredibly self-aware, and extremely sensitive. You’re also a little bit moody and prone to melancholy. A lone wolf by nature, you thrive in quiet seclusion, but also believe beauty is a necessity to life and want to share that beauty with others. If only you could get over your fear of vulnerability and self-consciousness…

At your worst, you can be a little vain, envious, and self-indulgent, seeing your needs as more important than those around you. At your healthiest, you’re inspired and objective. You recognize the value of your uniqueness and are able to take the pain from your negative experiences and transfigure it into something beautiful and transformative.

That’s why romanticizing your life, whether that's painting by a window, having a beautiful picnic in the park, or simply turning on smooth jazz as your homemade latte warms up, is your wholesome-girl hobby. You recognize the power of ritual and respect the profound effect that beauty has on the soul. Romanticizing your life, or certain aspects of it, allows you to aestheticize and appreciate your day and maintain whatever mood it is you’re currently exploring.

  • Deepest desire: To create a unique and impactful identity.

  • Deepest fear: To have no significance in life.

Type 5: The Investigator – Reading

House Ravenclaw is how best to describe you. Curious, innovative, intelligent, and a collector of knowledge are your key traits. The more you know, the more protected you feel. Nothing and no one can dispute cold hard facts and statistics, and that gives you a lot of comfort. At your unhealthiest, you’re scatterbrained and eccentric. At your healthiest, you’re poised, confident, and decisive.

It’s probably easier for you to make friends with the characters in your favorite novels, than actual people, and that’s why your wholesome-girl hobby is reading. It not only provides you with new ideas and concepts to mull over and process, it allows you a temporary escape from your ever busy brain.

  • Deepest desire: To be capable.

  • Deepest fear: To be useless.

Type 6: The Loyalist – Low-Tox Living

Security is a big deal to you. Like, huge. You want to feel secure in all the ways, all the time. You want to be supported by others, to always make the “right” decision (but you tend to have a hard time figuring out what that is on your own), and you want to ensure that you are financially and physically secure as well. As such, this makes you extremely reliable, hard-working, trustworthy, and loyal. Consequently, though, it also means that you can have a lot of self-doubts and are generally suspicious of everyone and everything. This is actually why low-tox living is the wholesome hobby for you!

There is no better security than your health (because without your health, what do you really have?). So you’ve sought out all the right answers and have found toxins lurking everywhere. It freaked you out at first, but the more mentally healthy you became, the more you realized I’ve got this. You became self-reliant and secure, armed with your new knowledge, and now you’re steadily improving your health, one day, one exciting research session at a time.

  • Deepest desire: To be secure.

  • Deepest fear: To have no support.

Type 7: The Enthusiast – Travel

“Girls just want to have fun” is your theme song, and the golden retriever is your spirit animal. You’re spontaneous, playful, optimistic, and extroverted, but also a little scattered, impatient, and undisciplined. When you’re unhealthy, you can suffer from serious FOMO and become harshly critical. But when you’re healthy, you’re able to channel all that energy into one (or two) goals and achieve them.

This is why travel is the perfect hobby for you. With all that energy, you could travel, and document your adventures, and maybe even make a living off it. You're fascinated with life and all things fun, and your excitement is contagious. All you’ve got to do now is figure out how to channel it.

  • Deepest desire: To be fulfilled.

  • Deepest fear: To be in pain.

Type 8: The Challenger – Martial Arts

You’re brutally honest and proud of it. You’re a protective mama bear on the home front and an assertive, decisive tiger in the workplace. You seek to maintain total control over your environment and push back against authority. You're strong and capable, and you want to make sure everyone knows it due to the fact that you struggle with vulnerability. When you’re mentally healthy, all of these domineering traits get channeled into heroic virtue that allows you to be open with those you trust and better the lives of those around you through your generosity. When you're in a bad headspace, however, watch out! You’ve got quite the temper.

This is why any form of martial arts is the wholesome-girl hobby for you. It’ll help teach you the self-discipline you need and encourage you to channel your protective instinct and aggression into something good. Honestly, with enough practice, you’d really excel in all facets of life with this hobby on your side.

  • Deepest desire: To be fully in control of your own life.

  • Deepest fear: Being harmed by others.

Type 9: The Peacemaker – Gardening

Go along to get along is your motto. You’re optimistic, supportive, and accepting. You just want everyone to get along and for everyone to be happy. And while this is admirable, it oftentimes leads to complacency. Sometimes you find yourself purposely avoiding hard truths and conversations in order to keep the peace, sometimes you may even find yourself being overpowered by those with stronger wills, and other times you may simply ignore or oversimplify significant issues. These “strategies” may serve to keep the peace in the short term, but in the long term, you’re going to have a bigger problem than the one you started with. These unhealthy habits can leave you plagued by anxiety, but healthy you recognizes that sometimes to heal a break, you have to set the bone. The discomfort you cause (and the feathers you ruffle) today will bring healing tomorrow, and this prospect energizes you and brings you the lasting peace you consistently crave.

This is why gardening is the perfect wholesome-girl hobby for you. Not only do you get to care for and nurture growing things, you get to become a student of the earth. You get to learn how pruning, cutting away old wood, makes room for a more bountiful harvest.

  • Deepest desire: To have inner peace.

  • Deepest fear: Loss of loved ones and peace.

Closing Thoughts

Hopefully by now, you know your Enneagram type, and hopefully, you weren’t left too offended (don’t worry, everyone thinks their type is the worst one).

If you were intrigued and want to learn more about yourself and even about how your type interacts with others, there are tons of great resources out there. Personally, learning about my Enneagram has not only been helpful for self-growth but for navigating relationships as well, so I highly recommend it.
