11 Easy Steps To Romanticize Your Life

How much time do we spend daydreaming about what could be? Maybe it’s about a person, or picturing life in a new city or in a different career. But what if we started romanticizing our real lives; the ones we're actually living each and every day?

The grass always seems greener on the other side, but maybe we’re just obsessing over the wrong things. Forget what could be, and start romanticizing your own life. You might not think your current situation is where you would like to be, but you can still make the most of it and practice things that bring you peace and make you more grateful. Play the hand you’ve been dealt, and take the small moments and make them big.

Here are 11 simple ways to help you romanticize your life.

1. When You Wake Up, Get in Tune with Nature

Most of us probably grab our phones the second we wake up and are immediately bombarded with news, social media, and messages. Why do we choose to start our day with anxiety? The day hasn't even fully begun, and we’ve immersed ourselves in everything going on in other people's lives and the world at large. Start your day with sunlight and nature instead. Instead of scrolling on your phone mindlessly for 30 minutes, use that time to take a walk, or grab a cup of coffee at your neighborhood cafe, or sit and listen to the birds on your back porch.

2. Wear Something That Makes You Feel Confident

I'm guilty of grabbing whatever is on top of the pile, rather than something that makes me feel good. But we all know that when we think we look good, we feel good. Look for an outfit that makes you feel confident and ready for the day, and put some effort into your hair and makeup. You will be more productive this way.

3. Make Your Bed

I know this sounds more like a chore than something that romanticizes your life, but I promise it’s beneficial. Making your bed gives you control over the first part of your day. You’re organized, decluttered, and ready. If you can start the day with something that puts you in control and makes you feel accomplished, you will feel more at peace with the rest of your day.

4. Create a Playlist

Adding in music and podcasts that bring you excitement and joy is a great way to inject happiness and contentment into your life. Whether it be during your commute to work or sitting at your desk, listen to something that lifts you up! I listen to podcasts during my drive to work, and it just gives me an extra boost during my day. I also listen sometimes while I'm cleaning and cooking, which makes the chores less boring!

5. Learn a New Hobby

Wake up, work, eat, sleep, repeat. Your life will become depressing and mundane if you don't add something fun to it. Find a hobby that you can look forward to during the week. It could be a sport, the gym, a homemaking skill, learning an instrument, a book club, or anything that makes you happy!

6. Rearrange and Decorate Your Living Space

I'm very practical, so I often neglect things like home decor which don’t always feel “necessary.” But they are necessary if they liven up your life and give your space a homey and personal feel. If your living space looks like a prison, you’ll start to feel like you’re in one. Decorate your space with something that feels like you. Or, if you have decorated already, rearrange things for a fresh start!

7. Take a Daytrip Somewhere Unexpected

Every now and then, we just need to get away from what’s going on in our lives. It doesn’t have to be a full-on vacation, it can be a quick day trip. Go somewhere you haven’t been and explore for a while. Maybe visit a new town and make a fun day out of it. Take a hike, try a new restaurant, or do a little shopping. Novelty can refresh and rejuvenate you.

8. Start a Workout Routine

One of the best ways to gain confidence and feel better about our lives is to work out. Physically, mentally, and emotionally, we feel better after we have exercised. Add this into your routine, and start feeling better about yourself.

9. Unwind and Do Something Relaxing

We all have our own way of unwinding. Maybe it’s reading a book to escape reality for a bit, or watching a TV show. You could try taking a bath, listening to some music, taking a walk, or doing anything that relaxes your mind after a long day. Give yourself some space to breathe before you get back to the grind.

10. Watch a Sunset

There’s something special about a sunset or a sunrise. This is a good way to romanticize your life because it almost feels magical. Watching the beauty of nature unfold before you gives you all the warm and fuzzy feelings and helps you take a moment to appreciate your blessings.

11. Get a Makeover

Maybe all you need is a makeover. Sometimes, we just need a little self-care to get the pep back in our step. Maybe you need a new hairstyle or hair color that can make you feel more beautiful and confident. Or you could get your nails done to add a little color to your life. Whatever it is that makes you feel special.

Closing Thoughts

All of us have days when we feel mediocre or unhappy or forget all of the good that is right in front of us. Try doing something that changes things up and gives your life some excitement. You’ll find that even simple things can make you appreciate all that you already have.
