Resort 2024 Trends We’ll Be Recreating For All Our Summer Vacays

Resort season is back to make all our summer fashion dreams come true. We’re revealing the six trends that were all over runways, and how to recreate them for “traipsey global socialite” effect while on vacay this year.

Resort collection unveilings typically don’t generate as much buzz as the fall and spring varieties do, but they’re no less dreamy. Unlike the traditional fashion weeks, in which designers show their collections during the specified week in one of the “Big Four” cities (New York, London, Milan, Paris), most resort collections are released online via lookbook, or as one-off shows in exotic locales throughout May and June. And even though it’s the slightly more ignored sibling in the fashion family (middle child syndrome?), Resort’s influence on the greater fashion consciousness is no less impactful and sets the tone for summer style in a big way.

As a genre, resort fashion has a uniquely mysterious, sensual quality to it. Launched just as the glorious summer season is beginning to unfold, it beckons you to shirk work and come out and play. It tempts you to stay up a little later, dancing on the front porch to Louis Armstrong or the latest Harry Styles bop. It calls you to sneak out in the middle of the night and run down the country lane to the meadow with the best stargazing view. It reminds us that there’s more to life than stress and responsibilities, schedules and mundane activities. Sometimes life should be fun just for the sake of fun, and to remind us of the splendor that is being alive. And for good measure, resort says, let’s make it really, really gorgeous to behold.

Which brings us to the Resort 2024 trends you need to know, and how to recreate for glitzy summer vacays. Spoiler: This season we’re planning on a shimmer and shine so bright it rivals the sun, dripping with fringe that touches the stars, and Latin flare so hot it could beat Death Valley records. Let’s begin!

Refractory Principles

Resort 2024 shimmer and shine are beyond. Like next level blinding. Like Angela being unable to look at Phyllis’s wedding dress in season 3 of The Office.

Yes, 2024 shine is capital E Extra, and we like that. Seen on the runway at the likes of Alemais, Staud, and the one-and-only Chanel, incandescent iridescence was loud, proud, and here to stay. And, though we probably should have for our vision’s sake, we couldn’t look away.

Whether to fashionably imitate the greatest energy source in the universe or to ward off (blind) potential predators, here’s how we’re replicating Resort 2024 shimmer and shine:

Endless Rose Iridescent Fringe Skirt, $138

Abercrombie & Fitch Satin Midi Dress, $130

Anthropologie Iridescent Butterfly Hair Clips, $18

Jeffrey Campbell Luau Platform Sandal, $100

Anthropologie Satin Pleated Midi Skirt, $120

Abercrombie & Fitch One-Shoulder Satin Knotted Midi Dress, $130

In Living Color

Summer is for living out loud in all the colors of the rainbow. Nothing shouts “I’m here, and ready to party!” more animatedly than the colorful prints at Carolina Herrera, Versace, and Naeem Khan.

Whether your vacay shade of living color broadcasts “quirky hostel” or “all-inclusive,” you’ve got plenty of options, and they’re anything but dull.

Anthropologie Malika Printed Dress, $118

Beach Riot Weston Dress, $198

Maeve Sleeveless Swing Dress, $170

Anthropologie Somerset Maxi Skirt, $130

Hyacinth House Pink Floral Sheridan Maxi Dress, $188

Victorian Girl Summer

Step aside, regency style. Victorian girl summer is here, and we’re singing it from the pointy, ornately gabled rooftops. When it comes to high necks, corseted bodices, and bell sleeves, Resort 2024 delivered on antique dreams, and we’ll do anything to get ahold of it ASAP. Considering a “hand over the lace and nobody gets hurt” run on Zimmermann headquarters as we speak.

Here’s how to get your Victorian girl on this summer:

Reformation Meadowlark Top, $148

BHLDN Isabella Midi Dress, $348

Hyacinth House Pink Floral Aurelia Mini Dress, $158

Anthropologie Victorian Lace Blouse, $130

Jen’s Pirate Booty Belmont Kelly Dress, $231

Free People Vera Lace Bow, $24

Asos Design Ruffle Blouse, $46

Flamenco Flair

One of my recurring daydreams is of being a spicy Latina expert in all things cha-cha and merengue, and resembling a fiery sunset on a hot summer’s eve. Resort 2024 apparently has similar life goals. Designers brought the heat this season, and we are melting like a popsicle on a scorching park slide.

Save yourself from infernal misery and snag these cool looks to *safely* spice up your summer wardrobe:

Maeve Florecita Ruffled Dress, $220

Endless Rose Ruffled One-Shoulder Lace Top, $98

Anthropologie Somerset Maxi Dress, $220

CeliaB Red Lake Dress, $300

Peixoto Belle Mini Dress, $148

Draper James Ruffled Wrap Skirt, $114

Free People Zuri Set, $368

On the Fringe

In 2024 when we ask for fringe, we want it to be soft, superfluous, and super swishy-wishy. Resort 2024 delivered on all fronts. From the more sophisticated Carolina Herrera to the more committed Alejandra Alonso Rojas, and everything in between, from Naeem Khan to Batsheva, fringe made a statement this year, and that statement was “You need me.”

If you’re looking to join the fringe cult (sign me up), here’s where you might start:

Anthropologie Fringe Cami, $88

Casa Clara Lily Beaded Fringe Earrings, $72

Line & Dot Selena Fringe Jacket, $178

Extro & Vert Cami Dress in Blue Fringe, $113

Miss Selfridge Crochet Fringe Dress, $48

Baby Spice

Spice Girl style has always been top-notch, but now it’s elite status. When it comes to satin ‘n lace slip dresses, hot pants, and baby pink everything, Anna Sui and Chanel have perfected the look, and we are in Baby Spice heaven.

If your desired vacay aesthetic this year is “baby spice’s soft girl,” here are some sweet somethings guaranteed to get you in “cute but psycho” mode:

BCBGeneration Mini Slip Dress, $88

LPA Ruffle Sweater Cardigan, $148

Beach Riot Raelyn Dress, $128

Atsu Bow Dress, $248

Jeffrey Campbell Sultry Platform Sandal, $155

Life Is Beautiful

Resort fashion is always fun, but 2024 collections have perfected the art of play. From retina-blinding shine to super-saturated color, a swirling concoction of whimsy and passion ruled the day, and we are positively captivated. Good fashion has a way of reminding us of the magic side of life – as well as the fleeting – and beckoning us to look up from our spreadsheets and run around barefoot in the sun. Resort demands that you seize summer by the horns and hold on for dear life, no matter where it takes you. And when the evening light is perfect and you watch the storm roll in from the screened-in porch, you regret nothing about the minutes of work lost and the dishes left undone. Because you’ve finally figured out what life is all about, and there’s no going back.
