What We Can Learn From Eva Mendes And Ryan Gosling’s Amazing Relationship

Like many other successful women, Eva started out laser-focused on her career. She starred in small and big movies, and her acting career was seemingly on the rise. She had no plans of slowing down until she met and fell in love with her Mr. Right, who happens to be Hollywood's biggest heartthrob, Ryan Gosling. Not long after that, they welcomed their eldest daughter into the world. Eva then put her acting career on hold to focus on her family, and she's proud of it.

While most of us aren't Hollywood actresses, many strong, independent women can relate to Eva's situation. No matter how much you love your career, there's still a part of you that wants to be swept off your feet by Mr. Right. Whether we like to admit it or not, this is a longing that will never go away.

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are notoriously private about their relationship, but every once in a while, they open up and give us some pearls of wisdom. So here are the top lessons we've learned from them about love and parenthood.

Eva Mendes Knows the Secret To Keeping Her Man Happy

In an interview with Extra's A.J. Calloway, Eva shared her secret to keeping a husband happy: "You can't do sweatpants… Ladies, number one cause of divorce in America, sweatpants, no!"

Her comment went viral but received backlash, so she later retracted the statement and joked that "orange crocs" were actually the cause of divorce.

We understand how people could have taken offense, but we think people completely missed her point (and the joke). Even though she was joking, there is some wisdom to what she said.

Firstly, of course, wearing sweatpants occasionally is okay, especially when you're exhausted. But, there's also a benefit in taking pride in your looks, which is what Eva was getting at. Everyone knows that when you look good, you feel good, and it shows you have high self-regard. And yes, your husband will appreciate your glow.

Eva Mendes Embraces Her Feminine Style

Eva Mendes needs zero hype in the style department, but her at-home uniform is much more traditionally feminine.

In an interview with What To Wear, she revealed that her go-to wardrobe staples are skirts, soft pants, and easy floral-print dresses.

"It's not unrealistic to see me in an outfit like this at home," Eva said at the launch of her latest New York & Company collection, pointing to her skirt. "Just without the belt and the shoes. I'd wear this with a loose tee or a tank top."

We love Eva's approach to clothes as it goes back to our previous point. Your inner beauty is your true personality, and the way you express it is through the way you present yourself to the world. Whether your style is classic, athleisure, vintage, edgy, or romantic, making an effort with how you dress makes a huge difference in how you yourself and others perceive you.

Some women can look hot in sporty attire (think of Victoria's Secret models or JLo), while others look frumpy and tired, so it's about knowing what looks good on you and what doesn't, and taking the time to look put-together.

Being "Hands-On Parents" without a Nanny Is Cool

Despite being one of Hollywood's most powerful couples, family always comes first for the Mendes-Gosling household. They don't have a nanny, and if needed, they use family.

A source at Us Weekly said, "They're hands-on parents and don't have any nannies. Being confined to their home with two small children is exhausting at times, especially without hired help."

That said, any parent will tell you it's worth it.

"Eva has programmed her entire routine and career to ensure family comes first – then work fits in around it," a second source tells Us. "Ryan is protective of Eva and a very doting dad."

Eva Is Ryan Gosling's Muse

Ryan Gosling never thought much about children before meeting Eva Mendes, and whenever he speaks about her, he always boasts how his life has changed for the better.

"Your whole life you hear what it's like to have kids, and all the clichés are true. I felt I knew that everything would be different, but until you experience that, there's no way to really know what people mean. I only know what it's like to have my kids. And in my situation, Eva's the dream mother, and they're dream babies, and it's like a dream that I'm having right now. I'm dreaming it all," Ryan told GQ.

When Hello! Magazine asked about the one quality he looks for in a woman, he replied, "That she's Eva Mendes. There's nothing else I'm looking for."

Finally, his Golden Globes acceptance speech for La La Land honoring Eva was awe-inspiring. Ryan said, "I just would like to try and thank one person properly and say that, while I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I've ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer. If she hadn't taken all that on so I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me. So, sweetheart, thank you."

To put it simply, Ryan is besotted with her.

Closing Thoughts

We think we can all take a leaf out of Eva Mendes' book. Whether you're aiming to become a better wife, mother, or human, Eva is a great role model to look up to.

Next time you're upset or stuck on how to handle something with parenting, your relationship, or life in general, close your eyes and think, "What would Eva Mendes do in this situation?"
