The 7 Best Blushes For The Perfect Summer Look
The right shade of blush can warm up your complexion, add a healthy glow, and even create the illusion of stronger cheekbones.
The right shade of blush is also associated with a summer vibe, cocktails, ocean waves, walks by the beach, and a laid-back state of mind. Which is why, in this article, I’ll suggest the seven best blushes to rock that perfect summer look.
Elf Cosmetics — Putty Blush
Elf's Putty Blush is a product loved by many because it has the same formula as the classic Putty Primer, just a pigmented version. Therefore, it works perfectly with the primer and stays in place all day long.
The application is also flawless and doesn't require much labor due to the presence of nourishing argan oil and vitamin E, which are ingredients that help the product spread around with ease.
The Putty Blush can be applied with a makeup brush, if you want a precise application, or with your fingers, if you want to achieve the minimal, no-effort makeup look. You can also diffuse it with a beauty blender if the formula is too creamy or oily for your skin type.
The Putty Blush comes in a 0.35oz circular plastic jar just like the original Putty Primer and features eight shades in total, all named after tropical islands.
The blush works great with adequately prepped and moisturized skin; however, it contains creams and oils that may be too much for oily or acne-prone skin. Therefore, if you fall in this category, you may want to skip this one.
ColourPop — Cheek Dew Serum Blush
The Cheek Dew Serum Blush blends into the skin with ease and doesn't require makeup brushes for a perfect application. You can definitely apply and buff it in with your fingers for a glossier finish, or you can diffuse it with a beauty blender if your skin is on the oilier side.
The formula is also infused with several beneficial ingredients for the skin, including hyaluronic acid, which is a powerful humectant that works to draw moisture into the skin and leave it plump and glowy, as well as brightening vitamin C and nourishing vitamin E.
ColourPop's Cheek Dew Serum Blush comes in a 13.5g (0.48oz) tube for easy and sanitary application, and you can choose between the 10 shades spanning rose, berry, coral, peachy-nude, and terracotta for the perfect flush.
Although the Serum Blush would be more suitable for dry skin types, you can also use it on oily skin. However, I would suggest avoiding it if your skin is acne-prone, as the overly-moisturizing silicones could potentially exacerbate pimples.
Florence By Mills — Cheek Me Later Cream Blush
Cheek Me Later Cream Blush is a collection launched by celebrity actress Millie Bobby Brown, and although her line started with some controversies, it quickly got back on track by launching a few great products.
Cheek Me Later isn't a new launch (I believe the blushes have been around since 2018 or 2019), but these are the only cream blushes that are perfect for oily and acne-prone skin.
Since Millie is a teenager, her blush line is actually targeted toward teenagers whose skin tends to be on the oilier side and who are dealing with that pesky teenage acne. Even though I’m well into adulthood, I’m still dealing with acne, which is why I've found these blushes absolutely perfect, especially for the summer.
Most cream blushes contain oils, stearates, and other heavy ingredients that allow them to spread easily, but Cheek Me Later actually contains kaolin clay which is a natural oil-absorbing mineral.
Cheek Me Later comes in a 0.19 oz plastic circular jar and features six shades from a gorgeous and light peachy pink to deep berry for darker skin tones.
Rare Beauty — Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush
Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush is Rare Beauty's newest addition.
After the brand absolutely killed it with their super-pigmented Soft-Pinch Liquid Blush, Selena Gomez decided to listen to her fans' requests and introduce a new, sheer blush formula for anyone who enjoys a more natural blush look.
The Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush has a luscious and unique translucent and glossy finish. The blush goes on very sheer, offering a very natural, real, and fresh flush to the skin. It gives the perfect watercolor effect, which is absolutely stunning.
The formula applies well with fingers, but it goes on better with a small stippling brush. You can also use a beauty blender to diffuse the glossy finish, especially if you’re on the oilier side.
Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush comes in a 0.17oz plastic compact that has an oval shape, magnetic closure, and a mirror, and this is my favorite kind of packaging because it looks luxurious and it's useful.
The collection comes in five shades ranging from nude to a deeper berry, making them wearable for every skin tone that wants to maintain a very minimalistic and natural look.
KKW Beauty — Honey Blush
Honey Blush is a collection consisting of two single blushes, which are a part of Kim Kardashian's newest honey-themed makeup launch.
The blushes come in two different shades called “Honey Pot,” a beautiful, soft apricot color, and “Honey Love,” which is only slightly different with a more peachy tone.
Both blushes have a soft blurring matte finish and sit beautifully on the skin, especially if you are on the oilier side.
The application is also nothing short of flawless, with the creamy and pigmented powder gliding on the skin with ease and allowing for buildable coverage.
The Honey Blushes come in a 0.26oz pan, which is quite a decent amount of product.
EM Cosmetics — Color Drops Serum Blush
Color Drops Serum Blush belongs to the makeup line of Michelle Phan, an OG beauty YouTuber and social media influencer.
Michelle Phan is an avid sunscreen user and loves her shimmery glow; therefore, her entire makeup line is pretty much formulated to go right on top of a lightweight, shimmery sunscreen rather than on a full face of makeup. This is why the Serum Blush is a product that's intended to be used on a bare face or only minimal makeup, as this is how it will best complement the appearance.
Serum Blush has a lightweight texture that delivers a slight emollient feel on the skin. It's more suitable for normal to dry skin types as it will give them a pretty dewy and natural-looking finish.
It won't be too much for oily skin right off the bat; however, it may not wear super well throughout the day, and you will probably need to blot or set it with a loose powder. Regardless of that, it's still a great lightweight option.
The Color Drops Serum Blush comes in a dropper bottle of 0.34 fl or 10ml and should last you a couple of months with frequent use.
It currently has eight shades ranging from peachy pink to a soft violet color, but Michelle has already announced she's working on expanding the shade range in the near future.
MERIT Beauty — Flush Balm
MERIT Beauty Flush Balm is a soft blush balm with a glossy, translucent finish. It has sheer coverage initially, but it can be built up to medium coverage if you prefer something more intense.
The Flush Balm has a lightweight, emollient texture that almost feels slippery when applied to the skin, but it becomes oily and glossy soon after applying it.
It spreads evenly on the skin with ease, and it won't dry down. Instead, it will retain the unique, glossy finish that will give you a beautiful wet-look vibe.
It’s a perfect product for a dry skin type; however, oily folks may run into some trouble with it, especially if you don't set it with powder.
Flush Balm comes in a 0.31oz pan, and you can currently choose from the five available shades on their official website that range from a beautiful terracotta to a bold burgundy.
