Shakira No Longer Believes In The "Story That A Woman Needs A Man" After Ex Gerard Pique Goes Public With New Girlfriend
International popstar Shakira recently broke up with her ex of 11 years, Gerard Piqué. In a tell-all interview, she says she doesn't believe in the fairytale that a woman needs a man.

In 2005, Shakira released one of her most popular hits to date, "Hips Don't Lie." Since then, she has been known as one of the most beloved popstars in the world. She solidified her place in the industry by performing in the 2020 Super Bowl with Jennifer Lopez.
But last year, Shakira's personal life took a turn for the worse. She broke up with her boyfriend Gerard Piqué, former professional soccer player from Spain. Shakira, 46, shares two children with Gerard, 36 (Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8), and they were together for 11 years. Allegedly, Gerard was unfaithful, and Shakira says she found out because she came home from a trip and discovered that some jam was missing. And Gerard doesn't like to eat jam. In her music video "Te Felicito" with Rauw Alejandro, she opens the fridge and finds Alejandro's head on a plate, perhaps referring to this little detail that began the demise of their relationship.

Shakira and Gerard announced they were breaking up in June 2022. In January 2023, she released a new single called "BZRP Music Session #53," and many speculate that she was shading Gerard and his new girlfriend, 23-year-old Clara Chia Marti.
"I wish you good luck with my supposed replacement / I don't even know what happened to you / You are so strange that I can't even distinguish you / I'm worth two of 22 [year old] / You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo / You traded a Rolex for a Casio," she sings.
On January 25, Gerard posted a selfie with Clara, and many people commented "Team Shakira" to pledge their allegiance to the Latina star.
On February 27, Shakira sat down with journalist Enrique Acevedo on Mexican channel Canal Estrellas to open up about her breakup and how she's feeling today. The interview was translated into English, and Shakira made it very clear that she doesn't believe in the same fairytale she once did.
"I too believed that story, that a women needed a man to complete herself," she said. "I also had that dream to have a family where the kids had their mom and dad under the same roof. Not all of those dreams come true, but life has a way of compensating you in one way or another."
"I depend on myself, and I have two kids that depend on me," she continued. "And I need to be stronger than a lioness…That force needs to be real, it cannot be a façade. And it's a force that comes out of living in pain, frustration, life not turning out the way you expected, dreams that are ripped apart, and having to pick up the pieces from the floor and putting yourself together again."
It also seems as if Shakira threw shade at Gerard's new girlfriend. "I use my voice and give it to those who can't use their voice," she said. "As Madeleine Albright said, and it's a phrase that I love, ‘There's a special place in hell for women that don't support women.' And yes, I'm in total agreement with that."
There's no way to know for sure if Shakira was referring to Clara, but it wouldn't be hard to believe. For now, Shakira is remaining strong for her children.
