Fun fact about me: I don’t own a hairdryer.

I’ve always preferred to shower at night and let my hair air dry. It’s a lot less time-consuming, and it saves my hair from the harsh heat of the hairdryer. Air drying your hair doesn’t mean it’s destined to look frizzy and untamed. If you use the right products in the shower, while you air dry, and in the morning, your hair will look flawless.

How To Prep Hair

It’s important to make sure that your hair is hydrated before air drying it, and it starts with the products you use in the shower. After shampooing and conditioning your hair, use a deep conditioning treatment like the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist Deep Conditioner.

After towel drying your hair, apply a leave-in conditioner like the Drybar Prep Rally Prime & Prep Detangler or the Not Your Mother's All Eyes On Me 10-in-1 Hair Perfector. Comb hair afterward to help the product soak in and to detangle.

No-Heat Straight Hair

If you’re looking for your hair to be straight, apply a smoothing treatment after your leave-in conditioner like the Garnier Fructis Smooth Air-Dry Anti-Frizz Cream or the Bumble and bumble Don't Blow It Fine Hair Air Dry Styler to help de-frizz your locks. Try to let your hair dry as much as possible before going to bed, and secure your hair in a scarf to lessen the frizz.

In the morning, apply an anti-frizz treatment like the Moroccanoil Treatment Serum or the OGX Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco Penetrating Oil. Style hair as usual afterward.

If your hair is thick and you need a little more maintenance, you can also opt to straighten your hair with a detangler and comb it when you get out of the shower. It’s a little more time-consuming, but worth it in the end.

No-Heat Waves or Curls

If you’re looking for your hair to be curly or wavy, apply a curl cream after your leave-in conditioner like the Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Defining Cream. After applying the product, put your hair into a braid (mine always looks curlier if I french braid my hair) before going to sleep.

In the morning, undo your braid and apply a texturizing product like the Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray. Finger-comb your hair to detangle (using a brush or regular comb will ruin the curls) and style as usual.

Another technique is to loop damp hair around a wire headband at the top of your head. Undo the loops in the morning and style hair as usual.

Closing Thoughts

Sometimes blow drying your hair is too time-consuming. Luckily, these products and tips make it easier to style your hair without using any heat.
