Kylan Darnell Blew Up During #BamaRush And We Can’t Get Enough Of Her Style And Positive Attitude

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “I hope you have a great day, not a good day,” over the past few weeks, but where does that phrase come from? Many would be surprised to learn that it was coined by Kylan Darnell, who went viral during #BamaRush this year and is the current Miss Ohio Teen USA.

The best part of #BamaRush TikTok is getting to know the young women going through recruitment through their outfit of the day (#OOTD) TikToks, and short vlogs. Kylan Darnell was the undisputed star this year, going viral for her cute outfits that combined both designer and affordable clothes and her bubbly personality. Since #BamaRush wrapped and Kylan accepted a bid from Zeta Tau Alpha, she has grown into a social media star, and we can’t get enough of her.

Who Is Kylan Darnell? And Why Is the Internet Obsessed?

The first #OOTD Kylan posted during #BamaRush not only showed off her sweet personality, but her adorable sense of style. She paired a basic white Zara tank with Gucci shorts, matching shoes, and accessories ranging from Amazon, Kendra Scott, Louis Vuitton, and Cartier. Throughout rush week, she continued to post #OOTDs featuring adorable outfits that mixed luxury items with affordable items, and fans couldn’t help but fall in love. In the middle of rush week, she coined the now-viral phrase, “I hope you have a great day, not a good day,” which just made fans love her even more.

Originally from Ohio, Kylan is majoring in news media and minoring in sports broadcasting at the University of Alabama. She’s cited Allie LaForce and Erin Andrews (who is also a Zeta Tau Alpha sister) as her career role models, and they're some of the most successful and prolific women in the sports broadcasting world. There’s a rumor going around that she turned down a spot at Yale to go to Alabama, which makes sense when you consider her major.

Kylan is also a successful pageant queen and is set to compete in Miss Teen USA this October as Miss Ohio Teen USA. Through her pageant work, she has established her own non-profit, Girl Power, an organization to help empower young girls. On the Miss North Central Ohio Teen USA Instagram account, she wrote, “I am the president of the Ohio chapter of girl power. This non-profit organization focuses on the importance of uplifting females. By providing tips to improve confidence, how to maintain a positive body image, and improving self-esteem! These goody bags were filled with girl power t-shirts, an empowerment journal, candy, and a calendar with positive affirmations because organizing one’s thoughts, affirmations and plans improve mental health! I loved dropping these of you my local women's shelter and friends.” [sic]

With 531.9k TikTok followers and 131k on Instagram, it’s safe to say that the internet loves Kylan. Her positive attitude is the right amount of healthy and doesn’t venture into toxic positivity territory. She’s also the perfect combination of aspirational and relatable. She wears designer clothes, but isn’t a snob about it and mixes in affordable pieces in every outfit. She’s the girl every girl wants to be friends with, but she’s also kind and approachable. She uses her platform to spread kindness, which is much needed in our culture right now.

How To Recreate Her Style

There are so many cute outfits on Kylan’s TikTok and Instagram that it would take forever to cover the highlights, so we picked out our top two favorites and found cute and affordable dupes.

Kylan wore this stunning Jovani lace dress in her dorm tour and one of her rush OOTD TikToks, and we found three similar and affordable (under $100) dresses online. Some of our favorites are from Pink Lily, Hello Molly, and Red Dress.

Another popular outfit is a sleeveless turquoise tweed dress from Zara, and we’re loving the colorful tweed trend. Though we couldn’t find this exact dress, we found a similar ASOS dress and a cute light blue tweed jacket with a matching skirt from Cider.

Closing Thoughts

From her sense of style to bubbly personality, it’s hard not to love Kylan Darnell. We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes in the future!
