Italian luxury fashion house Valentino’s “PP Pink” has been called the color of the season, but we can’t forget the true origins of the Barbiecore trend: Director Greta Gerwig is working on her new movie Barbie, which is sparking the trend’s popularity. The movie has several A-list celebs attached: Margot Robbie as Barbie, Ryan Gosling as Ken, Will Ferrel, and Issa Rae. Photos were taken of the actors in their neon roller-skating outfits and Robbie’s pink cowgirl outfit. Fans went wild over the colorful neon and pink outfits, resulting in a swift shift in fashion trends.

You may be confused about what exactly Barbiecore is, but it’s basically anything that Barbie would wear. Hot pink, feathers, sparkles, blonde hair, and heels are all staples of Barbie’s aesthetic.

Hitting the Runway and the Mainstream

Barbie has dominated the red carpet in 2022. Famous faces such as Megan Fox, Anne Hathaway, Kim Kardashian, and Hailey Bieber have put wings on this growing trend.

Most notably is Anne Hathaway’s sparkly hot pink two-piece number. Her top included a turtleneck and peplum hem at the waist with a matching bubble mini skirt, Valentino platform pumps, and a Roman stud crossbody bag.

Barbiecore doesn’t always mean pink though. Millie Bobby Brown wore a purple ensemble to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Her outfit was designed by Raisa Vanessa, which resembled Barbie’s timeless look with her feathered, purple off-the-shoulder top, metallic latex pants, platforms, and long blonde pin-up hairdo.

Cardi B’s version of the trend was seen in West Hollywood in February, donning a tweed, Chanel two-piece set with open-toed heels and a fuzzy white Chanel bag. She added glamour with silver statement jewelry, alongside her Playboy statement necklace.

Hailey Bieber wore a Barbiecore Versace minidress for her 46.4 million followers on Instagram. Her princess pink boned bodice dress and white boots perfectly fit the Barbie trend.

Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox have pulled multiple Barbiecore-inspired looks, including wearing matching outfits as they walked the carpet for the premier of Life is Pink, a documentary about MGK. Kelly wore a pink and blue cropped shirt and hot pink hair. Megan wore a pink dress and heels to match for the premiere afterparty.

Kim Kardashian lays on satin sheets with her metallic, silver Balenciaga sunglasses and bedazzled purse. The reality TV star’s bubble pink attire and platinum-blond hair really hones in on the Barbie dream life aesthetic. Her look is not only glamourous, but comfortable with her zip-up hoodie and shiny pantaleggings.

Dua Lipa shines in a hot pink Balenciaga catsuit and matching opera gloves for her “Future Nostalgia” tour.

Sydney Sweeney was adorned in an all-baby pink Miu Miu ensemble for this photoshoot. She wore a crystal covered, low-rise mini skirt with a slit on the leg, a light pink georgette shirt, and platform heels.
