Can your social media profile picture describe your personality? Psychologist, life coach, and popular TikTok influencer Frances Tighinean believes it can! The viral content creator recently graduated from the University of London with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and she’s now sharing what she’s learned on her platform. While Tighinean’s videos can be helpful by providing hints about someone’s persona, it’s important to note that a single photo (obviously) can’t tell you everything about them. Nevertheless, her tips are still good to know and might even help you when it comes to dating apps. Let’s take a look at what she says about your energy based on your profile picture!

  1. If you have colorful pictures where you’re surrounded by several people, you’re probably an extrovert. Your love of social interactions and friendliness are evident when you're showing off yourself with your friends!

  2. A really sexy profile picture might show you have an inferiority complex. Someone who reveals too much might be doing so in order to compensate for their feelings of inadequacy. “They feel like they need to be more expressive or show more in order to compensate because they don’t feel good enough,” Tighinean explains.

  3. Do you change your profile picture a lot? This might mean you’re insecure about yourself or you don’t have a strong identity. “People who keep on changing their profile pictures are insecure, lack confidence, and are often very flippant in their decisions,” said one psychologist named Amool Ranjan.

  4. Is your hubby or wife in your profile picture? This means you see your other half as part of your identity! However, Tighinean also believes that people with anxious attachment issues have a tendency to post more couple pictures than those with avoidant attachment problems.

  5. If you’ve got a photo of your pet or kids, that’s a good sign! It means you have the ability to empathize and take care of others. “This is also a mating strategy that a lot of men use,” Tighineans adds. Researchers in 2021 decided to analyze dating profiles, and they found that men who included their dogs in their pictures were usually looking for a long-term relationship.

  6. People who are looking down in their profile pictures are sending the message that they’re superior and dominant. It might also signify a big ego.

  7. Pictures of individuals who are looking up show the opposite. According to Tighinean, it “transmits a message of inferiority and submissiveness.” It’s apparently also a “sexual mating” strategy for women on social media.

Closing Thoughts

In my opinion, Tighinean’s observations might have some truth to them, but her findings can’t be applied to every profile picture. Display photos come in many different forms – so do people! Still, Tighinean’s many videos on psychology and relationships are incredibly helpful and useful. Lastly, do any of these descriptions match your personality style? What do you think?
