Don't Know Which Show To Start Next? Here's What Our Writers Are Watching Right Now
With thousands of shows available for streaming, it can be difficult to decide what to watch. We help you choose which one to start next.

Though many of us are content to rewatch The Office until the end of time, sometimes it’s nice to start a new show. Here are some of the shows that our writers are watching and loving right now.
The Empress - Netflix
“I just finished the first season and can’t wait for the next. The Empress is based on the true story of the Empress of Austria and her life in the Viennese court. Set in the 1800s, it focuses on the love story between Elisabeth and Emperor Franz Joseph, but it's also full of conspiracy, passion, attractive people, and gorgeous fashion. The Empress is everything a girl could want in a show, and despite my busy schedule, I’m glad I set aside time to watch it.” – Alicia Bittle
Alice In Borderland - Netflix
“Just watched Alice In Borderland, which is about a guy who gets transported to what is essentially a video game where he is forced to compete with other people to survive daily (similar to Squid Game). There are two seasons, and it’s a thriller that ties in human emotions and will keep you on the edge of your seat.” – Anna Hartman
All Of Us Are Dead - Netflix
“I just finished All of Us Are Dead, which is another Korean show. This one is about high school students who have to escape their high school when a zombie apocalypse breaks out (little do they know that it expands outside their school). I’m not usually a zombie fan, but this one was surprisingly entertaining and kind of cute (it ends up being somewhat of a love story).” – Anna Hartman
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Paramount+
“My husband and I tend to be ‘hipsters’ about our television preferences, rarely watching new shows. He introduced me to Star Trek: The Next Generation a few years back, and we’re watching Deep Space Nine together. It’s really fun bonding over ‘older’ shows and watching something together that both men and women can appreciate for different reasons. I’ve become obsessed with the screenplay, script, and classically trained actors that used to be cast in the older series of Star Trek. My husband enjoys that too, but it’s a great couple's activity because he can dive deeper into the lore and appreciate the intricate world-building.” – Andrea Mew
Terminal List - Amazon Prime
“Starring Chris Pratt, the show is based on a book about a Navy Seal who lost his entire team on a mission. After coming home, he finds out he has a brain tumor. His wife and daughter are murdered, and he finds out someone is targeting him. He and a local journalist uncover the truth about his brain tumor and the death of his team, and he makes it his mission to find all of the people responsible for the death of his family.” – Hannah Leah
Outer Banks - Netflix
“I’m looking forward to watching Outer Banks season three, which comes out later in February. This is one of the only non-intellectual shows that I have ever liked, but it’s just classic entertainment with a fun setting in North Carolina’s Outer Banks and the Bahamas. Think of high-sea adventure, sailing, lost treasure, shipwrecks, love triangles, and more. There’s also great character development, and the characters have multi-dimensional personalities, which is rare these days. Finally, the fashion of Outer Banks has a distinctive laidback beachy look, which I love.” – Sylvia Patterson
Foreign Reality Shows on Netflix
“When it comes to reality shows, I’ve been on a foreign language kick lately. I recently finished The Ultimatum: France and Love Is Blind: Japan, and I’m about to rewatch Terrace House. I really enjoy seeing how other cultures approach relationships. I also don’t mind subtitles (as a breastfeeding mom, I spend a lot of time sitting still). I think I’ve even picked up a teeny bit of the language. Old Enough is another Japanese show on Netflix that I started watching. The episodes are really short and center on children doing solo errands for the first time. Lots of cuteness and mayhem ensues.” – Evie Solheim
Fleishman Is in Trouble - Hulu
“I just finished Fleishman Is in Trouble on Hulu and was pleasantly surprised. It portrayed motherhood and divorce in a very raw, realistic way. Basically, a man’s ex-wife disappears, and the story is told through his friend, who examines their marriage and divorce from an outsider’s perspective. Definitely didn’t see the ending coming either!” – Gwen Farrell
You - Netflix
“With the fourth season premiering soon, I’ve been rewatching You on Netflix. The show follows Joe Goldberg, a serial killer who is convinced that he’s the good guy and that everyone around him is what’s wrong with society. Each season takes place in a different city and with different love interests, introducing Joe to new obstacles. I love anything related to true crime, so it’s fun to watch a show about a fictional serial killer and what happens in the mind of one. I also love that it’s equal parts drama and comedy, making it perfect for those with a dark sense of humor.” – Meghan Dillon
