The police searched Andrew and Tristan Tate's house on the morning of December 29, according to Romanian news outlets. The warrant was prompted by the Romanian agency Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), and the brothers were detained hours after being investigated. The warrant was also organized for a former policewoman who allegedly collaborated with the brothers.

Andrew and Tristan Tate have been suspected of forming an organized criminal group that used and exploited women for pornographic content. In addition, the duo are suspected of sex trafficking and rape. The police stated that women were recruited via the "loverboy method," in which the brothers would promise them marriage and more. Instead, the victims were purpotedly transported and housed in buildings located in Ilfov county, where they underwent physical violence and coercion. So far, six victims have been identified by the cops.

In a rough translation, a police statement said: "In the case it was noted that, at the beginning of 2021, 4 suspects (two British citizens and two Romanian citizens) constituted a criminal group organized in order to commit crimes on the territory of Romania, but also of other countries, such as the United States of America and Great Britain, of the crime of human trafficking."

In April, DIICOT prosecutors ordered a criminal investigation "for deprivation of liberty and rape" against the Tate brothers. It occurred after the U.S. Embassy received a complaint that an American woman was being forcibly held at the brothers' home. The Romanian authorities found two women – one American woman and another from Moldova – at their residence.

The young American woman stated she was seduced by Tristan Tate online who convinced her to fly to Romania. She was said to abandon her boyfriend to live with Tristan but was threatened and forced to work as a sex cammer. She called her boyfriend who alerted the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest.

According to Gandul, Andrew and Tristan Tate were detained and taken to the headquarters of DIICOT for further hearings.
