There have been many attempts to tell the story of the beautiful icon Marilyn Monroe on film, but this upcoming movie aims to show a different side. The director Andrew Dominik previously said that this film may make people uncomfortable; that doesn't bother him, though.

“It’s a demanding movie. If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the f*cking audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office," he said. "It’s an NC-17 movie about Marilyn Monroe, it’s kind of what you want, right? I want to go and see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story.”

Ana de Armas talked about the NC-17 rating in a recent interview with French magazine L'Officiel, claiming that she doesn't quite understand why this movie would be rated as such when there are many other R-rated films that are just as explicit.

Ana sympathizes with Marilyn and what she went through while she was in the limelight. She says it's important to have "family and people who love you" in order to make it in this industry. "And Marilyn didn't have that," Ana said. "When you think about that, it’s easy to understand how you can break. People can be so cavalier about commenting on someone’s life or body or sexuality or relationships. It can really do damage.”

When the press learned that Blonde would be rated NC-17, the headlines went wild. Marilyn has always been a sexual figure, but the rating made people wonder what kind of content would be seen in the film. However, Ana doesn't really understand why Blonde was given the NC-17 rating.

“I didn’t understand why that happened,” she said. “I can tell you a number of shows or movies that are way more explicit with a lot more sexual content than Blonde. But to tell this story it is important to show all these moments in Marilyn’s life that made her end up the way that she did. It needed to be explained. Everyone [in the cast] knew we had to go to uncomfortable places. I wasn’t the only one.”

Marilyn was allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted during the final weekend of her life, and accounts say that she was also sexually abused when she was only a child. Ana hints that these are the parts of her life that are necessary to understand Marilyn's story and her persona.

Ana says it was a dream to work with Adrien Brody, who played her ex Arthur Miller. They had to film some sensitive scenes together, but she felt safe with him. "I cannot tell you how much I love that man," Ana said.

During the interview, Ana opened up a little about her personal life and said she chose to leave LA because she didn't want to deal with the scrutiny of her breakup with Ben Affleck. She reportedly lives in New York now and is dating Tinder executive Paul Boukadakis.
