There's a brand new Marilyn Monroe movie coming out soon and Ana de Armas will play the iconic actress. It sounds like this biopic is shaping up to be a bit different than what we've seen in the past.
We've seen Michelle Williams play Marilyn Monroe before in My Week With Marilyn, but there wasn't anything too risqué in that movie. Blonde, the latest Marilyn Monroe film starring de Armas, promises to be a little more revealing, though.
"Blonde" Will Be Rated NC-17
The Motion Picture Association announced on Wednesday that Blonde, which is based on Joyce Carol Oates' 700-page novel, will be rated NC-17. The new Netflix movie will include a rape scene that will be edited by Jennifer Lame (Tenet). Director Andrew Dominik made it clear that he isn't worried whether this rating and the content of this film will bother audiences.
"It’s a demanding movie. If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the fucking audience’s problem," he told Screen Daily. "It’s not running for public office. It’s an NC-17 movie about Marilyn Monroe, it’s kind of what you want, right? I want to go and see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story."
Something tells us that not everyone agrees with him on this. Sure, Marilyn Monroe is sexy and one of the most iconic women in history, but not everyone is waiting at the edge of their seat to see her raped or perpetually naked on the big screen.
Dominik thanked Netflix for supporting this movie even though there was some dispute about the content. "It’s much easier to support stuff when you like it. It’s much harder when you don’t. I have nothing but gratitude for Netflix," he said.
Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale and Julianne Nicholson co-star in Blonde and this will be the first NC-17 movie that Netflix releases. The premiere date is yet to be set.
