You probably know that you can survive without food for weeks, but without water, you’ll die within a matter of days. But did you also know that the quality of your water is incredibly important too? By filtering or distilling your water, chemicals, pesticides, chlorine, bacterial contaminants, and heavy metals will be removed from it. In doing so, you may reduce the risk of developing certain cancers and gastrointestinal diseases.

Should I Filter or Distill My Water?

Filtration removes impurities in your water by trapping them in a filter, while distillation removes impurities by boiling and condensing the water. The main difference between the two processes is that filtered water removes many impurities, but the distillation process produces water that is almost pure with nearly no impurities at all. However, there are lots of beneficial minerals in water that are removed in the distillation process, which is why some people prefer filtration.

Once you’ve decided whether you prefer filtered or distilled water, there are a number of supplements you can add to improve your overall health even further.

6 Things To Add to Your Water for Insane Health Benefits

1. Collagen

Collagen provides structure and support to your skin, muscles, bones, and connective tissues. As we age, our bodies begin to slow down the production of collagen, which is why adding a scoop to your water can help. By adding a collagen supplement, it’ll help support important functions like tissue repair, immune response, cellular communication, and cellular migration.

2. Lemon and Sea Salt

When life gives you lemons…make lemon water with sea salt!

Did you know adding sea salt can help balance your potassium and sodium levels? This has a variety of benefits and helps with the functioning of neurological health, the cardiovascular system, cellular health, and muscular health. Adding lemon will help with the taste, but it will also provide a good source of vitamin C, will aid digestion, and could prevent kidney stones.

3. Greens Powder

Greens powders are dietary supplements that contain powdered vegetables, fruits, and other nutrients. These powders have a great deal of benefits! They enhance your overall wellness, reduce chronic disease risk, and support immune function. Plus, they may even help with increasing energy and detoxing, but more research is required to confirm that perk.

4. Ginger Root

As ginger is a natural root, adding it to your water will give you more nutrients. But that’s not all it does! It may help with migraine pain, nausea, cholesterol levels, blood sugar control, and weight loss.

Here’s one way to make ginger water:

  1. Grate 1.5 teaspoons of fresh ginger.

  2. Boil 4 cups of water.

  3. Add the ginger to the water.

  4. Remove the water from the stove.

  5. Allow the ginger to steep for about 5 to 10 minutes.

  6. Strain the liquid to remove ginger pieces.

  7. Allow the water to cool enough to drink, or place it in the refrigerator and drink when cold.

5. Minerals

If you choose to distill your water, you’ll need to remineralize it. This is because the process takes all the nasty contaminants out of your water and all the beneficial minerals too. This is important to do as there has been some evidence that suggests drinking pure distilled water may have some adverse effects, such as creating an electrolyte imbalance and a decrease in the body’s metabolic function. To avoid this, you’ll want to add calcium, magnesium, and other trace minerals to your distilled water.

6. Rosemary

This one is not for ingesting, but you can add it to water to spray on your hair and scalp. Due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, rosemary can be used to encourage hair growth. To add it to your water and reap the benefits, follow these instructions:

  1. Put 5 sprigs of rosemary in a pan with two cups of distilled water.

  2. Bring the pot to a boil, then let it simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.

  3. Remove the pot from the heat and let the rosemary steep for 30 minutes minimum. For a stronger mix, leave the rosemary to steep for 5 hours.

  4. Strain the mix and pour it into a spray bottle.

  5. Store the bottle in the fridge to prolong its shelf life.

When using the rosemary water, make sure you spray the water onto your scalp and hair and massage your scalp. As people’s hair types vary, not everyone will experience the same benefits. In particular, people who suffer from hair loss due to hormonal reasons or advanced aging and individuals with irritation caused by dandruff usually see the best results.

Closing Thoughts
