Whether he’s chasing tornadoes, flying fighter jets, posing as a hit man or falling in love, it seems that there’s no role audiences won’t line up to watch Glen Powell in.

But what makes him so endearing? Here are 5 reasons women around the world are undeniably obsessed.

He’s Passionate

Throughout his career, Powell has proved he’s not on set just to be in front of the camera and then go home when his lines are done. Powell embraces (and reveres) the entire filmmaking process. He respects and learns from the actors before him, such as Tom Cruise and Matthew McConaughey. He was a writer, actor and producer on “Hit Man,” working for years during the peak of his career with Richard Linklater to develop the script. In a 2024 interview with Powell in Interview Magazine, McConaughey said of the move, “You jumped on it and said, ‘I’m going to make my own food at a time when I’m invited to more proverbial dinners than ever before.’”

Powell’s passion isn’t limited to just acting. A native of Austin, Texas, he is well-known for his love of barbecue and the Texas Longhorns. The former even led him to name his dog Brisket and recently release an all-organic condiment brand, Smash Kitchen, which (you guessed it) features a few varieties of barbecue sauce. He’s also known to attend Longhorns’ football games and share his support via social media.

Passion is a universally attractive quality, especially in an increasingly “too cool to care” society. Passionate people’s enthusiasm is usually inspiring and contagious, even if you don’t share the same passions. Having a life purpose and a driving reason behind getting up in the morning is one of the traits of a high-value man, and women take notice immediately. If passion is one of the primary traits of a man, chances are he also showcases a plethora of other good qualities, including confidence, motivation, hard work, ambition and optimism.

He’s Attractive

Let’s not beat around the bush here: a winning smile, a happy-go-lucky personality, a tan and a six-pack never hurt a man’s appeal. A key aspect of Powell’s appeal is his confident masculinity. He possesses a classic, all-American, manly profile, and that is often mirrored in his roles, such as Hangman in “Top Gun: Maverick” and Tyler Owens in “Twisters.” In “Twisters,” Powell’s storm-chasing character was similarly wild and bold, but also caring and chivalrous. With a tip of his cowboy hat and a “yes, ma’am,” he left audiences swooning.

Powell’s attractiveness goes beyond the physical, though. He has a certain charm and charisma that harkens back to classic Hollywood. He owns his stardom (and his good looks) while still keeping it down-to-earth. Unlike his "Top Gun: Maverick" character, Powell is humble. His positive and energetic disposition has been likened online and in interviews to a golden retriever. He's also a romantic, aiming to bring back the rom-com with the release of “Anyone But You.” While he can play a bad boy well, he exhibits all good-guy traits (and green flags) in his real-life personality.

He’s a Family Man

Powell is known for his close relationship with his family. In 2022, he made headlines for moving out of LA and back to his hometown to be near family and to finish his degree at the University of Texas at Austin. He was inspired by advice from McConaughey, who told him, “Hollywood is the Matrix.” At the height of his success, he left Hollywood to be closer to his family.

In a recent interview with People, Powell said, “My life and career so far, it's never felt right unless I've had my family along for the ride.” He has made it a tradition in his career for his parents to star as extras in his movies. His whole family is often invited to the sets, premieres and other press events. His recent Super Bowl commercial featured his nieces and nephews, and a video recently went viral of him trying (and failing) to keep it together after seeing his sister in her wedding dress.

Today, men are told conflicting messages about what a strong man is, and the most dominant of these archetypes — the alpha male — has prompted much discussion of what masculinity looks like. Too often, however, the definition of manhood offered in these conversations is devoid of several true masculine traits, favoring a watered-down, playboy-esque imitation. A core trait of masculinity is being a protector and lover of your family. Women are attracted to providers and men who value family. What some view as weakness is one of men’s biggest strengths.

He’s Silly

In an industry of people who typically take themselves too seriously, Powell is always up for a laugh. His signature silliness appears in many of his projects, from having fun with the multiple personalities of hit men in “Hit Man” to his character’s hilarious moments in “Anyone But You.” Whenever his role calls for humor, he fully commits to the bit. In turn, it makes him even more likable.

Powell’s humor is often self-deprecating, and his family is in on the joke. At the “Hit Man” premiere, his parents stood behind him on the red carpet with signs that said “Stop trying to make Glen Powell happen” and “It’s never gonna happen.” When an unnamed producer gave an interview praising Powell while taking a dig at Ryan Gosling, Powell reposted the article, saying, “Gosling is a legend. I’m just Glen,” a reference to Gosling’s viral “Barbie” performance. In a self-obsessed Hollywood landscape, Powell’s willing teardown of ego is a refreshing quality.

Powell’s ability to joke and laugh at himself also challenges the narrative that women are only attracted to brooding, mysterious or arrogant types. While a bit of mystique can be exciting, ultimately, women don’t want a man who plays games, strings them along or won’t commit. They want clear intentions and honesty. Powell’s humor exhibits a lack of pretense and a certain lack of seriousness that puts people at ease.

He Shoots For Success

While Powell has become a household name, his journey to Hollywood wasn’t smooth. While he starred in several movies and TV shows when he first moved to LA, he didn’t land a breakout role for years, working jobs on the side to get by. He was in his 30s when he starred in “Top Gun: Maverick,” which shot him to fame.

You might think that, under the circumstances, Powell would have taken any script or character during his dry spell in Hollywood. Instead, he was choosy about his roles. When Tom Cruise personally offered him the role of Hangman, Powell almost didn’t take it, fearing the character would do the movie a disservice. Instead, he and Cruise reworked the character to exhibit redemption in the end and to enhance the film’s storyline.

Even at the chance to join one of the most iconic remakes, Powell was focused on the success of the craft, not his own personal success as an actor. In a 2024 GQ UK magazine interview, Linklater said of Powell, “He’s not afraid to put in the work to achieve whatever he wants. No shortcuts.” When a man takes his passion and follows through (without egotistical motivation), it’s instantly attractive.

Glen Powell showcases qualities women admire — and want — in a man. We want a man who showcases drive, wants to be successful, has a sense of humor and yes, is good looking and masculine. These traits will never go out of style.
