He knew when someone’s not the greatest person,” the classmate said. Crooks was a part of a local gun club, the Clairton Sportsmen’s Club. Jason Kohler, a student from the same high school, told CNN that Crooks was bullied by other students and appeared to be a “loner.” According to Kohler, Crooks had “no facial expression” when he walked through the school’s halls, and “He wasn’t, like, with the clique, so he always had, I guess, a target on his back.” Former student Sarah D’Angelo recalled Crooks as “a quiet kid, not obviously political or violent in any way.” A third classmate who wished to remain anonymous said Crooks was intelligent, took honors classes, and was shy.
