Oh, August. The month in which we attempt to hurry fall along by sheer force of will – i.e. sweater-wearing in 90-degree heat – while simultaneously never wanting summer to end. August turns many of us into fashion schizophrenics, seen in long sleeves and jeans one day and a bikini the next, as we’re inclined both to don our coziest apparel and to squeeze in one last summer vacay. We’re checking into the beach house while checking out the weather app to see if cooler weather is on the horizon. The sunset of summer is a confusing time.

Unsurprisingly, it seems the fashion girls are just as perplexed as we are right now. The August lookbook consisted of everything from itty bitty two-pieces to sweaters and booties, and has us undecided as to whether we should be buying outerwear or adding another swimmy to cart. As prophetic as they are when it comes to trends, they’re no more clear on a seasonal consensus than we are, and it shows. But one area in which they continue to not disappoint: They make the vacillatory fashion mania look good.

For an entertaining (if not clarifying) roundup from our favorite fashion ladies, buckle up for a whiplash-y ride through the weird and wonderful world of August fashion:

Paola Ambre

As Paola Ambre showed us this month, an oversized button-up is a must in every hot girl closet. Worn as a mini dress on hot days, or with trousers and sneakers when the weather cools down (see Gigi Hadid’s version below), it’s a slam dunk in the streetwear chic department. Either way, a ball cap accessory takes it to the next level every time.

J Crew Factory Relaxed Button-Up Shirt, $90

Gigi Hadid

Gigi Hadid displayed the trousered rendition of the oversized button-up saga in NYC this month. Expertly paired with leather ballet flats, the iconic outfit is more evidence that Hadid is indeed a true fashion leader of our time.

Cloth & Stone Button-Down Shirt, $98

Gabrielle Caunesil Pozzoli

Cornhusk-colored sundress in a matching monochromatic cornfield – nature is really coming through for a girl here. It’s giving never-ending summer, and making us wish it would come true. Gabrielle Pozzoli is a vision in agricultural aesthetic.

Free People Dahlia Embroidered Dress, $168

Mara Lafontan

Like a cherry at the pinnacle of an end-of-summer sundae, a little red dress is hard to beat. Mara Lafontan graced us with the French rendition this month, and likely set the photogs’ hearts aflutter, along with their fingers atop camera shutters.

Realisation Par Allegra Dress, $245

Alix Earle

Alix Earle gave us the LRD of swimwear recently on her beach vacay: the retro rouge bikini. Pinup energy is making us pine for beach days that are quickly slipping through our fingers like soft white sand. Take us back, and we promise to never take another day under the sun for granted ever again.

Beach Riot Sophia Bikini Top, $118

Double Trouble

Scandi chic has got a new poster girl, and it’s a double feature. Danish twins Amalie and Cecilie Moosgaard are models turned jewelry designers for LIÉ STUDIO, their popular jewelry brand beloved by subtle fashionistas and quiet luxury lovers. Their minimalist end-of-summer style here is simple, chic, and easy to replicate if understated elegance is your vibe.

Mango Wide Leg Pleated Pants, $90

Kit Keenan

Button-up cardi with micro denim cut-offs is one way to satisfy the seasonal dualism plaguing this identity-conflicted month. Kit Keenan of Bachelor fame does it to perfection with stripes on top and pointed-toe heels on bottom.

J Crew Emilie Patch-Pocket Sweater Lady Jacket, $138

Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa jumped on the metallics trend in August with an iridescent mini dress in rose silver. It’s like she’s calling us to dance the night away on the beach before the sun sets on summer for good. Would make a great song.

Collective The Label Exclusive Puff Sleeve Sequin Mini Dress, $91

Paola Cossentino

We love all sides of Paolo Cossentino, from the sweet to the dramatic, and these two looks from August show off her style versatility seamlessly. Girl knows the power of dressing up – and dressing down.

Princess Polly Patton Set White Floral, $70

Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner is single-handedly keeping summer alive in a delightful mango halter dress that screams late nights and hot dates. Unconfirmed, but we speculate that this look is Bad Bunny-approved.

Show Me Your Mumu Jasmine Halter Mini Dress, $148

Hailey Bieber

Justin Bieber’s better half stepped out in lime green this month with a Bottega Veneta bag and coordinating top. The cropped boatneck top paired with baggy jeans and black loafers was the ultimate cool girl look.

Earlier in the month, the model-turned-entrepreneur matched her husband in a ruched red halter dress and heels for an enviably romantic date night look. In the style department, Hailey Bieber can do no wrong.

Reformation Annika Silk Top, $168

Sofia Richie Grainge

Sofia Richie Grainge also boarded the neon train this month in a limoncello jacket from Proenza Schouler, and we don’t know what’s poppin’ more – the strikingly vivid blazer or those shiny blonde locks. La dolce vita indeed.

Smythe Scrunch Sleeve Longline Blazer, $695

Miss Bantu

Miss Bantu is proving once more here that everyone needs a Peter Pan collar mini dress (this one’s from Dream Sister Jane). The undeniable winner in every hypothetical “who wore it best” moment, she is beauty, she is grace, she’s a grade A babe in preppy ruffles and lace.

Dream Sister Jane Camille Jacquard Mini Dress, $98

Sophie Turner

The Turner-Jonases were the portrait of eternal love this month at the Jonas Brothers concert in NYC. Sophie dazzled in a shimmering green mini dress and heels fit for a young fashion queen. Joe didn't look too bad either in a Valentino varsity jacket and hipster glasses. Yay for fashionista love.

Urban Threads Cowl Neck Mini Dress, $63

Karina Bik

Happy to see that Barbie girl summer is still going strong via NYC-based model and influencer Karina Bik and co. Flirty pink minidresses and matching pink lattes are reminding us why Barbie was the number one movie of the summer and how it created an entire fuschia-tinted cultural revolution. Never change, boss Barbabe.

Pilcro Long Sleeve Silky Mini Dress, $140

Michelle Lin

Michelle Lin can’t give up linen sets, and neither can we. Cropped top and matching wide pants in natural, it’s the most effortlessly chic outfit money can buy. Lin later switched the linen out for a stone pinstripe pantsuit that included the world’s cutest vest for Copenhagen Fashion Week. We’ll be recreating both looks as soon as can be reasonably expected (two-day shipping being the only holdup).

Gap Pinstripe Vest, $70

Mary Leest

Model and influencer Mary Leest was a tall drink of water in a cool, blouson-top, handkerchief-bottom Isabel Marant minidress in New York this month. She styled it with pointed-toe cream leather boots and a burgundy-rust bag, elevating the look to of-the-moment chic – perfect for the transition to fall.

Krisa Smocked Surplice Mini Dress, $187

Danish Delight

Speaking of transitioning to fall, the locals showed us the way at Copenhagen Fashion Week this month. In a very photo op worthy moment, this pretty crew proved that trenches are indeed en vogue again this year – in all different varieties.

Banana Republic Factory Classic Twill Trench, $220

Summer’s Sunset

This month found many of us trying to catch every last drop of summer, while also feeling the anxious butterflies of the return to school/work/normal life. It’s like the summer version of the week between Christmas and New Year’s, where you’re eternally (and inexplicably) in sweats, and never know what day or time it is. Which at least gives you the excuse to go through all four seasons of your closet in 30 days (because nobody else knows what’s going on, either). Yes, fashion saves the day once more. And in the name of going out with a bang, our battle cry to August is this: Long Live Summer. And also, hurry up, fall.
