What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the word “seduction”? You might imagine the latest Hollywood ‘It Girl’ starlet, or you might think of bright red lipstick paired with bright red nail polish, or maybe your mind immediately goes to whatever dress in your closet makes you feel confident and beautiful.

We all imagine something a little different when we think of “seduction” – so it’s not surprising that there are actually nine different types of it, according to Robert Greene’s book, The Art of Seduction. So what are these different types of seducers, and which one are you?

1. The Siren

The Siren is a woman who represents what we think of as the ultimate “male fantasy” – she is beautiful, spontaneous, confident, dangerous, adventurous, and passionate. She’s extremely feminine, using both clothing and makeup to accentuate her features and draw all eyes to her. However, her greatest weakness is that as she ages, her youthful beauty will fade.

2. The Rake

The Rake is often characterized as a man who represents the female fantasy, though there can be female Rakes. They will incessantly pursue their target, going to the ends of the earth in order to be in their good graces, acting like a slave to their desire. They will add a touch of danger and intrigue to their target’s days. For the Rake, the most important thing is making someone feel like the most attractive person in the world – at least, while they still have their sights set on them.

3. The Ideal Lover

The Ideal Lover is what we imagine when we think of, well, our ideal lover – they’re someone who takes the time to understand and know you, treating you as endlessly fascinating as they learn about your deepest desires and needs. They figure out what’s missing from someone’s life and how to provide it for them, becoming dear to the object of their affection and making them feel as though their Ideal Lover brings out the best in them.

4. The Dandy

The Dandy doesn’t conform to our traditional ideas of masculinity and femininity, striking a unique balance between the two. With their boldness, willingness to tackle taboo subjects, and nonconformist attitude, they’re endlessly intriguing to others. Their lack of categorization offers those they come across a glimpse of a more bohemian, exciting, free lifestyle that they can’t help but want to be a part of.

5. The Natural

The Natural is unique in their innocence, their childlike qualities drawing people in who find themselves bogged down and bored with adulthood. The Natural has remained untouched by the mundanities and evils of growing up, offering those around them something different from all the other full-fledged adults they’ve come across, yet familiar, taking them back to the days of fewer responsibilities.

6. The Coquette

The Coquette is the definition of hot and cold. They’re incredibly mysterious, coy, and enigmatic, leaving their love interest guessing how they really feel. They never totally pursue the object of their affection – to the Coquette, a strong pursuit will end up driving someone away, so they hold back, offering smaller signals of interest. For those chasing the Coquette, it’s their evasiveness that is most intriguing – if someone is so hard-won, they must be a prize.

7. The Charmer

The Charmer’s method of attracting is by taking all focus off themselves and placing it on the person across from them. They never complain, badger, or quarrel, instead ensuring that their presence is always positive and other-focused. They allow their target to tell them everything about their desires, worries, and struggles. They then use what they’ve learned to their advantage, getting their lover to fall hopelessly in love with them.

8. The Charismatic

The Charismatic comes across as incredibly driven, self-assured, and self-sufficient, drawing the attention of those who are lacking these qualities and representing the kind of person others hope to be. Others will often look to Charismatics to find the solution to their problems, who will then use their natural gift with words to sway their target’s emotions and increase their influence over them.

9. The Star

The Star knows how drawn we are to those who fascinate us, and so they present themselves as endlessly compelling, glamorous, and dramatic. They create a persona similar to a celebrity, ethereal and brimming with star quality, instilling in others a need to be in their inner circle. Those around the Star will be both fascinated by them and identify with them, making for an irresistible mix.

Closing Thoughts

The art of seduction is one that everyone will have a different approach to, depending on their personality, desires, interests, and needs. Which type do you most identify with?
