Viral TikToker Shows Her Life As A “Stay-At-Home Girlfriend"—But People Think Her Life Is Boring

Kendal Kay decided to upload a short video of how she spends her day as a "stay-at-home girlfriend" on TikTok. In the clip, Kendal shows herself waking up, making drinks, doing her skincare routine, journaling, going to the beach, and eating a smoothie bowl. The video went viral – but not for the reasons people may think. While some may assume that being a stay-at-home girlfriend seems glamorous, users felt that Kendal's lifestyle was actually boring. "I’m already bored," commented Alicia. "So you do nothing..," added Khi.

One TikToker Zoomed into Kendal’s Journal Entry

In a surprising twist, one TikTok user decided to zoom into Kendal’s journal.

She then reads Kendal’s entry out loud: “Satisfaction, fulfillment, lack of fun, social life excitement," @1000mgibuprofen reads. “The contrast between this very aesthetically-styled vlog and, like, this aspirational content that she just put in front of us and this very real and very raw diary entry full of, like, her dissatisfaction with the lifestyle that she just put on display... is just really interesting and kind of jarring," she adds. 

Users felt like Kendal's writings were a cry for help. “Feels like a cry for help hope there okay,” wrote @pandamalone. “This feels like a blink twice kind of hidden cry for help,” parroted @lindasleftleg. 

Now, most viewers believe that Kendal’s life seems miserable and unfulfilling. While her videos may lack the “excitement” that people constantly crave, her life actually seems cozy. And, if we have to be honest, most would probably choose to be a “stay-at-home” girlfriend over working a tiring, unfulfilling job. In the end, I believe people are being a bit too harsh on Kendal. She’s just trying to show off her simple life, and that’s okay – and this goes without saying, but even people who work can feel stagnant in their lives. At the same time, it's important to know that staying at home isn’t always as glamorous as it seems. Feeling joy and contentment greatly depends on your outlook and not on attaining a specific, aesthetically-pleasing lifestyle.
