Despite how mainstream articles want to tie Giorgia Meloni to "anti-vaxxers," she wasn't always critical of the Covid-19 mandates in the past. According to the subtitles in a resurfaced video, Meloni used to push for the Digital Green Certificate. “I am thinking, for example, of the theme of the Digital Green Certificate. We were the first to support it, we hope it will be adopted as soon as possible. On a horizon of total reciprocity with all European states, it is a priority. And it is essential to restore freedom of movement, and above all, to restart tourism,” she says.

In 2021, Meloni was actively supporting the rush of the EU Digital Certificate. “Adoption of a digital green certificate throughout the EU is a priority,” said Meloni, according to one Italian news source. The Covid-19 certificate lists someone’s name, date of birth, and other relevant information pertaining to vaccine status, test, and recovery. The certificate removes travel restrictions within Schengen countries.

That same year, Meloni tweeted in support of the scientific community regarding the Covid-19 vaccine mandates. "On vaccines, it is necessary to have the humility to rely on the scientific community. It is an issue that should not be addressed at an ideological level: we let those who have the skills decide which vaccines are necessary and obligatory." The tweet has since been deleted. But it seems Meloni has since changed her mind, deeming the green pass as “restrictive” and that it “limits freedom” of Italian citizens. After she was accused of hypocrisy, Meloni defended herself, stating that she was supporting a different green pass, specifically one that would allow international travel.

Giorgia Meloni is set to become Italy’s first female prime minister, with sources claiming that Meloni is expected to “form Italy’s most right-wing government since World War Two.” Meloni has rallied against “LGBTQ lobbies” and “gender ideologies” and has been called a neo-fascist and a “danger” to Europe. Because of Meloni’s strict and "traditional" values, some users might be shocked to find her in support of the Covid-19 vaccine passport. Of course, it’s possible that Meloni has changed her mind after several years. At the same time, politicians are known to flip-flop in order to gain favor from citizens.

Meloni Is Part of the Aspen Institute

Users were also surprised to find that Giorgia Meloni is listed as a member of the Aspen Institute, an organizational think tank. The Aspen Institute has been awarded contracts by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. More eyebrows were raised when Hillary Clinton showed her support for Meloni’s win. "I don't know much about her, but ... anytime a woman is elected head of state that is a step forward," she said in an interview. With all of this being said, maybe we should stay wary of politicians regardless of what they say. We should always judge them based on their actions instead of their promises.
