Victoria Justice Received Death Threats Over "We All Sing" Meme

It’s been over a decade since the internet decided to collectively clown Victoria Justice for saying five words.

“I think we all sing.”

That was the line that handed Victoria Justice in hot water. Justice, who played the lead role of Tori Vega on Victorious, was in her mid-teens when the moment was captured on camera. The cast had been asked who sings the most outside of filming, and after a few co-stars praised Ariana Grande, Justice cut in with what she thought was a simple statement. “I think we all sing,” she said.

The clip instantly became meme fuel, and people accused her of being jealous. Years after the viral video, Justice is now speaking out about it. “There was a time for so long on the internet where I felt like people hated me,” Justice said during a recent interview on Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals series. “It can really be a ruthless place. And mob mentality is such a real thing.”

She was 16 or 17 when the interview happened, but the clip didn’t go viral until years later. Justice said it blindsided her. “I got so much hate, dude. I got death threats,” she revealed. “I felt bad for my mom, ‘cause she was looking at all this stuff online and she was freaking out.”

The meme took on a life of its own, morphing into this weird running gag about her being jealous of Grande, a narrative that stuck despite Justice’s repeated attempts to shut it down.

“This whole narrative that was created of me being jealous of [Ariana] and us not being friends,” she told E! News last year. “I feel like it’s this constant story of the media and people wanting to put people against each other and it’s just... so not even relevant right now.” She added, “This is so dumb. Ten years later. How is this even a story? This is so stupid.”

Speaking on Last Meals, she made it clear she was just stating the obvious. “First of all, it’s factual. We did all sing, OK? What do you want from me?! Speaking the facts.”

Even host Josh Scherer pointed out how absurd it was. “It’s three words spoken by a teenager.”

Justice agreed. “I’m like, ‘What did I do? What did I do?’ I’m sitting here living my life, just trying to work, live. It was wild.”

She also pointed out how the media helped spin the situation. “It was still in this whole narrative because I think the media outlet that put it out put this whole spin on it,” she said. “Man, it must have been a really slow news day for them because… I think when they published that, I don’t even know how many years later it was—I was like way into my 20s, from an interview I did when I was like 16 or something—and then it’s like, I got all this hate.”

Justice said she can laugh about it now. “Now I think it’s funny. I’m in on the joke. I even say it to myself all the time… It was definitely a thing where it was like, the internet hates Victoria Justice right now.”
