Tiger Woods "Eliminates Sex" To Prepare For The Masters Golf Tournament

According to a close friend, Tiger Woods is abstaining from sex for the entire duration of the Masters. "He’s focused," the friend of Woods told the New York Post. While some think it's extreme or unnecessary, other professional athletes take a similar approach.

With the Masters Tournament just days away, golf icon Tiger Woods, 48, is taking every step to ensure victory. According to a close friend, Woods is "working really hard in the gym. He’s eating right. He’s even eliminated sex. He does that now when he’s preparing: no sex until the tournament is over. He doesn’t want anything to take away his focus."

Woods is currently single following the end of his tumultuous relationship with Erica Herman in 2023. The couple remained private over the years (a big difference from Woods' previous relationship with Lindsey Vonn and his very public marriage and divorce from Elin Nordegren after a long string of infidelities), but the pair did attend the 2022 US Open together to support Serena Williams.

Last month, it was revealed that Herman filed a lawsuit against Woods, asking to be removed from a non-disclosure agreement she signed in 2017. Herman cited the Speak Out Act, which allows NDAs to be nullified in cases of sexual assault or harassment. However, her request was denied by a judge and she dropped the NDA appeal and sexual assault allegations.

Despite questions about Wood's current dating life, his friend insisted that there's "no one to speak of" in regards to Wood's love life, which likely makes his restrictive training plan a little bit easier.

Woods isn’t the first professional athlete to refrain from sex before competition. Muhammad Ali said he used to stop having sex for six weeks before big fights, while Mike Tyson was even more extreme and claimed he didn't have sex in five years during his prime. Both claimed it improved their focus and energy. Some international football teams have also employed the same restrictive policies.

However, others like football legend Joe Namath said that having sex before games helped ease some nervous tension. Whether or not the practice has benefits seems to vary based on the individual.

Tiger's Return to the Masters

The Masters Tournament is the first event in the current "four majors" of men's golf, and it has been taking place since 1934. Woods first attended the Masters in 1995 as an amateur, and he was crowned champion just two years later. Since then, he's won four more Masters titles, with the most recent one in 2019.

He's only ever missed one competition in 2021 due to an injury he sustained from a car accident. He's had to limit his practice time to accommodate weakened legs from the accident, which may account for his decision to abstain from sex as he prepares. According to his friend, Woods is doing everything he can to quickly get into his best form for this year's competition, although he also said that Woods isn't sure if he's ready yet due to his waist and left ankle losing some flexibility during his recovery time.

This August, his pro golf career will reach the 28-year mark. According to the New York Post, he's undergone surgery at least 10 times for golf-related injuries during his career, "five of which were in his left knee, and the rest were in his back."

"He's working very hard, spending hours in the gym, practicing, taking care of himself," the insider concluded. "He wants to play, and he always plays to win."

If Woods does enter the Masters Tournament, it will mark his 26th appearance.
