I took it as a challenge to get to know him. We started chatting about mutual interests like video games, among other niche cultural interests, and discovered we both had Disneyland passes. He'd pick me up from campus when I was bored out of my mind, plugging through the end of my senior year, and drive us up to Disneyland. We bonded over a bunch of things. He challenged my preconceived notions about my political ideology , we became very close friends, and quickly started dating. About a month after my birthday, we officially became boyfriend/girlfriend. Why wait an entire month after my birthday to finally start dating, you ask? I got asked to senior prom by a friend, so out of respect for him, and to not make things weird, we decided to hold off.
