The 15 Worst Dressed Celebs At The 2022 MTV VMAs

Is anyone even watching the VMAs anymore, or are we all just tuning in for the ridiculous outfits showcased on the red carpet beforehand? Aside from Taylor Swift’s announcement of her newest album dropping in October, the most shocking thing about last night was the ensembles (or lack thereof) that were styled by celebrities. If the fashion choices from last night were any indication of where we’re headed in the future for trends, it’s safe to say we’re…scared. 

The biggest issue, it seems, is that every celeb wants to make a bold statement these days, and they’re grabbing their fans’ attention any way they can. What happened to beautiful, form-fitting dresses and creative (but classy) stylish sets? Hollywood has lost its way, and last night’s red carpet from the MTV VMAs demonstrates just that. Let’s take a look at 15 of the worst-dressed celebrities, shall we?

Lizzo

Was she going for a Hefty bag commercial or a dark and mysterious waterfall look? Either way, someone should’ve told Lizzo to dial it back on the overwhelming amount of fabric. She looks like she’s smuggling in at least three people underneath this dress. A good way to attend if you don’t have a ticket though, yes?

Lil Nas X

For… what? Whose eyelash extensions did he steal, and how did he sit and watch the VMAs without having an entire row of seats dedicated to himself? For all the people sitting behind his obnoxious headpiece, we’re deeply sorry. 

Latto

Sponsored by Shein? This tacky ensemble looks like it was made for the strip club, not the VMAs. The gaudy earrings, blingy bag, and matching neon shoes make this entire look a miss. 

Avril Lavigne

Avril Lavigne is here to tell you that she is, in fact, not Melissa. While she may be wearing her signature sk8r boy look, we’d just like to know why all-black, drab, boyish looking clothes seem like a good idea for a celebrity-studded event? It’s giving us flashbacks of Hot Topic, and not in a cute, nostalgic way.

What’s up with celebrities desperate to show off their nipples on the red carpet? We get it, you’re comfortable with your sexuality. Do the rest of us (including the kids watching the VMAs) need to pay the price, though? Get a little more creative next time, team.

Is someone missing their sleeping bag? This futuristic try-hard is best saved for…never. At least she was comfy though.

Once again, where is the rest of your top, ma’am? This has the potential to be a gorgeous denim look, especially with her stunning makeup and hair, but the top made it look more like a Halloween costume than a glamorous red carpet ensemble.

It’s giving off Mario Kart vibes. Between the hair, the tacky hoop earrings, and the baseball cap, I can’t think of a single excuse for why she would choose this outfit to wear to the VMAs over countless beautiful gown options. 

Remi Wolf

Someone figure out who Remi’s stylist is and let her know that she just made it onto the blacklist for every celebrity ever. There’s just no saving grace about this look, my only idea is that she desperately wanted to be on the ‘Worst Dressed’ list for every publication. Well, congrats, girlfriend, I have no doubt that you accomplished your goal.

It looks like we found ourselves another outfit sponsored by Shein! There’s simply no other explanation for a set this tacky. And where do you even find matching green glittery platform shoes? We can’t imagine she had a good time walking in those all night.

And again with the nipples. Why is this the most annoying fashion trend among celebrities nowadays? Not only does the dress look like it was inspired by a mood ring, but it just looks… cheap. Which the orange trench coat and leather boots definitely match.

If we can see your…creases, it’s too much. What happened to just wearing a beautiful dress on the red carpet? We’d like to bring back the days when class and glamor were on trend.

Another woman infantilizing herself, or she didn’t have time to change from her ice skating competition earlier? The fit and styling of this dress could have been so much better. It’s loose in all the wrong places, and the accessories and shoes are just doing too much.

Peter Pan meets Ursula? What was the vision here? I think a lot of these celebrities mixed up their VMA looks with their Halloween costumes, and we feel safe in assuming they’re probably regretting it today.
