Just hours ago, Taylor Swift announced on social media that she will release her eighth album, “Folklore,” tonight at midnight. She writes, “Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen.”

She describes this album as a collection of songs that she has “poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into.” The music was written in isolation, but Taylor was able to collaborate remotely with songwriters Aaron Dessner, William Bowery, Jack Antonoff, and Bon Iver (who is also featured in one song). Taylor also released the track list — 16 songs, plus a bonus track.

If you want a special, physical copy of the album for your Taylor Swift collection, then head over to taylorswift.com. Taylor "made 8 deluxe CD editions and 8 deluxe vinyl editions that are available for one week. Each deluxe edition has unique covers, photos, and artwork."

And, as if a whole new album to listen to weren’t enough to make Swifties jump for joy, Taylor is also releasing the music video for “Cardigan” tonight, which she wrote and directed.  Taylor describes how the music video was made: "The entire shoot was overseen by a medical inspector, everyone wore masks, stayed away from each other, and I even did my own hair, makeup, and styling."

So why release a full-fledged album now, during a global pandemic? Taylor explains, “Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed. My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with.”

We can get on board with that too, Taylor!
