In 2017, after Harvey Weinstein's crimes came to light, multiple men came forward to allege that Kevin Spacey sexually assaulted them. One of them was Anthony Rapp, who said in an interview that when he was only 14, the then 26-year-old Spacey lifted him, placed him on his bed, and inappropriately touched him.

In 2022, the judge ordered the House of Cards actor to pay $31 million for alleged sexual misconduct involving the series' production assistant. In a shocking twist, the U.K. jury later found Spacey not guilty of nine sexual offenses against four men in their twenties and thirties, occurring between 2004 and 2013.

Celebrities are now calling for Spacey's return one year after the verdict. “I can’t wait to see Kevin back at work. He is a genius. He is so elegant and fun, generous to a fault, and knows more about our craft than most of us ever will,” actress Sharon Stone told The Telegraph, saying it was evident aspiring actors “wanted and want to be around him.” Is that true, though?

According to Spacey Unmasked, a documentary that focuses on the sexual misconduct allegations by 10 men against the actor, a young actor who went by Daniel said that he started working on House of Cards as a 23-year-old and was at first eager to be given a speaking role where he had to whisper in Spacey’s ear. However, Daniel alleged Spacey “groped” him while they were on set and put his finger on his zipper. “His hand touched my penis,” he claimed. “I was inappropriately touched on set at work.”

Liam Neeson also defended Spacey, telling the paper that he “was deeply saddened to learn of these accusations against him" and adding, "Kevin is a good man and a man of character. Personally speaking, our industry needs him and misses him greatly."

Meanwhile, actor F. Murray Abraham, who also faced sexual misconduct allegations during the production of Mythic Quest, calls Spacey's critics "vultures." He said, “I vouch for him unequivocally. Who are these vultures who attack a man who has publicly accepted his responsibility for certain behavior, unlike so many others? … He is a fine man, I stand with him, and let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”

English broadcaster Stephen Fry commented on Spacey Unmasked. He admitted Spacey had been both "clumsy" and "inappropriate" on many occasions, but to “bracket [Spacey] with the likes of Harvey Weinstein” and “to continue to harass and hound him, to devote a whole documentary to accusations that simply do not add up to crimes… How can that be considered proportionate and justified?”

Following the documentary's release, the 64-year-old actor said that he takes "full responsibility" for his past behavior and actions, which he characterized as "promiscuous" and "flirty," but denied the majority of the new allegations.

"I cannot and will not take responsibility or apologize to anyone who's made up stuff about me or exaggerated stories about me," Spacey said.
