Season 3 of Nobody Wants This Nails How Every Woman Feels About Her Ex

Season 3 of Nobody Wants This dropped on Netflix on October 22, and I did what any emotionally stable adult woman does: cleared my Thursday night, ignored the laundry, and watched Kristen Bell lose her mind over a man she doesn't even like. That's Episode 3, "Housewarming," in a sentence. Joanne and Noah (Adam Brody, still the internet's boyfriend ) are planning a Jewish housewarming for their new place. Meanwhile, the neighbor who keeps leaving his trash bins in front of their house has turned out to be Travis, Joanne's ex, played by Avan Jogia. Yes, Beck from Victorious . The universe has jokes. Netflix describes Travis as a "confident and unbothered guys' guy who enjoys getting under Joanne's skin." Translation: he's the ex. You know the one. Never really committed, never really apologized, still rent-free in your head years later. In Joanne's case, he literally lives next door. And she handles it exactly how I would. Which is to say, badly. You should not care what he thinks. And yet the second there's even a 10% chance of running into him, something ancient in your brain lights up and starts picking an outfit. You know the rules. You're in a happy, healthy relationship. He's a loser you wouldn't take back if he showed up with a ring and a therapist's note. You should not care what he thinks. And yet the second there's even a 10% chance of running into him, something ancient in your brain lights up and starts picking an outfit. The Driveway Workout That Isn't The episode opens with Joanne stretching on her driveway, set to J Balvin, fake-jogging and watching for Travis. She's been at it for 30 minutes. She calls her sister Morgan for support and gets a reality check instead: "You look cute, but it's not worth this, and you're stalking him at this point." Joanne's defense is airtight. "Technically, it's not stalking if I'm on my property line." Morgan asks the obvious question. Does she want him back? "Ew, no." And I believe her. That's the part people miss when they call Joanne unhinged this episode. What she wants is far more specific and far more relatable: "I need him to admit he blew it with me, and I need to look good when he does it." The stakes are real, by the way. The last time Travis saw her, she was mid-makeover courtesy of Bina, tweed suit and low bun included. "When he saw me last, I was dressed as Bina." Girl. I would also be stretching on the driveway in a hot two-piece set. Travis never shows. When Noah asks if she went for a run: "Ew, no, why would I do that?" "Ask Any Woman. Any Sane Woman." Later, Joanne gives Noah the Travis backstory, and it's bleak in the way these things always are . He "bread-crumbed my ass and made me feel insane for, like, ten months." Around their sixth breakup, he told her that after he really thought about it, "only 20% of him wanted to be with me." Noah, bless him, responds like every girl's dream man: "Well, 100% of me wants to be with you." If you have a Noah, go kiss him. So when Travis finally wanders over and Joanne giggles her way through an invite to the party ("our friends are really fun"), you know where this is going. His one question is whether "that hot girl, Morgan" will be there. Joanne reminds him Morgan is her sister. She invites him anyway. "If I remember, I'm there," he says, and winks. Noah follows her inside with a frown. Noah, gently, notes that she went "a little rogue with that invite." Joanne doesn't bother pretending. The point is to make him jealous. In one study of nearly 400 adults, people who got dumped were almost twice as likely as the dumpers to try to make their ex jealous. Noah: "The last I checked, you're in a happy, healthy relationship with a total stud." Joanne: "Exactly. Which is why he needs to see that up close and personal. It's totally normal to wanna make an ex jealous." Noah starts to suggest that letting go of old resentments can be healthy, and Joanne shuts it down with the line of the episode: "You can't do the rabbi thing on this one. I love you, but you're a man, so you don't get it. Ask any woman. Any sane woman." She's right, and I say that as a woman who has absolutely chosen an outfit based on who might be at a party. "Travis saw me at my absolute worst, so I need him to see me at my best." Noah: "Yes. The version of you that wants revenge." For the record, science is on Joanne's side. Breakups hit women and men on different timelines. A study of 5,705 people in 96 countries from Binghamton University and University College London found that women hurt more right after a breakup, then recover more fully and come out stronger. Men tend to feel the loss later and longer, once it sinks in that they have to start competing all over again. Hi, Travis. The urge to stage a glow-up has a paper trail, too. In one study of nearly 400 adults , people who got dumped were almost twice as likely as the dumpers to try to make their ex jealous. Other researchers found that rejection takes a real bite out of self-esteem, and that the biggest difference in how women and men coped was that women went shopping. So when the man who rated you at 20% wanders onto your driveway, wanting him to see you at 100% is just your brain trying to settle the score. In good jeans. Most of us will never get a Joanne-style ambush with our ex and a pair of good leggings, so we do it from the phone instead. And in 2026, the driveway is optional. Most of us will never get a Joanne-style ambush with our ex and a pair of good leggings, so we do it from the phone instead. A story where the lighting is doing God's work. A carousel where your man has his hand on your waist and you look like the couple everyone's FYP keeps serving them. Then you wait for his name to pop up in the viewer list, or a like to roll in at 11:48 p.m. That's the whole transaction. He saw. He still looks. He can't have you. You don't reply, you don't engage, you don't even mention it to anyone (except your three closest friends, with screenshots). One little heart and the score is settled. The Toast The party goes about how you'd expect. Joanne spends it half-there, and Noah clocks it. "You on neighbor watch?" "No, sorry." When he reminds her it's their housewarming, she tries again: "I'm present. Sorry." Then comes the mezuzah. Noah hangs it, declares the house officially blessed, and Joanne takes the floor for a toast right as, per the recaps, Travis walks in. Kveller says she "goes completely off the rails." Kveller is being kind. "'Cause Noah and I have, uh, like, just a transcendent, life-altering connection. It's incredibly profound, as well as profoundly sexual, as we know." She keeps going. "As deep as two people can go." She keeps going. "I cannot help but smile when I think about all the places that we've already christened." Then she starts listing rooms. The living room. The kitchen. Noah tries to pull the plane up ("It's devout." "And it's holy.") and only makes it worse. A guest mutters, "They must be microdosing." The toast finally lands on "Let's eat!" And Joanne knows it. When Noah tells her afterward, "I'm gonna be honest, I've hit a wall with the whole Travis thing," she doesn't argue. "Oh, yeah, that was crazy. My lower self took over." A little later, once they've both cooled off: "No, you were right. I… I took it way too far. I just kind of blacked out and couldn't stop." Blacking out and being unable to stop is the entire experience of running into an ex while trying to look like you haven't thought about him once since 2019. What Travis Actually Said On his way out, Travis pulls Noah aside for a little man-to-man: "Listen, bro to bro, she's nuts." Then: "All right, listen, it wasn't a big deal to me, but are you sure you wanna do this forever?" Noah's answer is a thing of beauty. "First of all, don't ever talk about Joanne like that to me or anyone, okay? Second of all, I'm glad you f***ed it up with the best person on the planet. Worked out well for me." And then, the kicker: "Get your f***ing trash cans out of our driveway." Joanne isn't there. She never hears a word of it. As the party winds down, she asks. "Hey, I saw you, um, talking to Travis. What did he say? Was it bad?" Watch Noah stall. "Oh. Uh… I wasn't gonna say anything. Uh… But he…" He exhales. "He said he's still obsessed with you." Now, obviously, he said nothing of the sort. Travis called her nuts and asked if Noah wanted to flee. Noah knows it, looks at the woman who has spent an entire episode stretching on a driveway for one reason, and hands her the thing she actually wanted. She doesn't want Travis. She never did. "Duh!" Then "Oh my God," several times. "I feel like I could lift a car right now." She doesn't want Travis. She never did. She wanted to know that he wanted her, that letting her go was the dumbest thing he ever did, that she is, officially, the one that got away. Noah couldn't make Travis say it. So he said it for him. It's a lie, technically. But it's also one of the sweetest things a man has done on television in years. Noah starts the episode thinking Joanne should release her old resentments. He ends it defending her to Travis's face and lying to hers. He got it. Eventually. I could tell you to stop caring what your ex thinks. You've heard it, you'd agree, and you'd still wear the good jeans the day you know he'll be at brunch. So make sure the man next to you is a Noah . We don't want the ex back. We want him to know he blew it, and the right man will hand you that feeling himself, no run-in required.
