Rachel Zegler was only a teenager when she was thrust into the spotlight as the lead in the 2021 version of West Side Story. She starred opposite Ansel Elgort and Ariana DeBose. Her career is only getting started, though. She's starring as the famous Disney princess Snow White in the next live-action film of the classic fairytale. Things may be going well for Rachel, but she revealed that she found a lump in her breast when she was 19, leaving her with the fear that she had breast cancer.

In her Instagram Stories, Rachel detailed a frightening experience when she was 19 years old. "Two years ago, I found a lump in my breast and went through what was undoubtedly the scariest week of my life," she said. "No OB/GYN was taking new patients due to the backlog of the pandemic, but I was fortunate to have the care of my pediatrician who prescribed me an ultrasound, which led to an out-patient biopsy procedure."

Rachel expressed her gratitude at the fact that the lump was benign. She said the "scar serves as a reminder" to get her breasts checked routinely for irregular growth.

"The fibroadenoma in my left breast is a common occurrence but nevertheless extremely scary to find," she said. "Early detection saves lives!!!"

She ended by encouraging women to get themselves checked regularly, no matter how young and healthy you may be.

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women, according to the CDC. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 287,000 cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in women by the end of 2022. If you have any concerns, visit your doctor and get tested.
