The transgender movement has grown exponentially over the last few years and taken over mainstream culture. Many classical liberals have been forced to speak up against the way that women are being forced to share their same-sex spaces with biological men. Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has led the charge in speaking out about the idea that trans rights will result in women's sports and spaces being infiltrated by trans-identified men. As someone who has always held liberal values—supporting gay marriage, the sexual revolution, etc.—it has been confusing for some people to see her oppose the modern transgender movement. But she has refused to back down, regardless of how many threats and how much hatred she experiences as a result online. Progressive show host Ana Kasparian is following in the footsteps of Rowling, and she also refuses to back down before the intersectional mob.

Progressive Commentator Ana Kasparian Slams the Term "Birthing Person" and Demands To Be Called a Woman

Ana Kasparian is an executive producer and co-host of The Young Turks, a progressive show that started on the radio in 2002 and now is available on multiple platforms, including YouTube. Kasparian has always been outspoken against the overturning of Roe v. Wade and in support of gun control, gay marriage, and single payer healthcare. Although she has always been a liberal who vehemently opposes essentially all of the values and beliefs held by conservatives, Kasparian has recently spoken out against some of the terms that progressives are using as a way to promote the inclusivity of trans individuals.

In March, Kasparian made it clear that she isn't comfortable with any of the terms that have been put forth to replace the word woman.

"I'm a woman. Please don't ever refer to me as a person with a uterus, birthing person, or person who menstruates. How do people not realize how degrading this is? You can support the transgender community without doing this sh*t," she said.

"I respect you a lot, but this notion that the mere existence of trans-inclusive terms (rarely used in casual convos) somehow degrades women comes right out of the right's anti-trans 'war on women' playbook. There's a reason why they're praising you for this," @humanistreport responded.

"Hey Mike, you’re guy who has no clue what it’s like to have your reproductive freedom taken away. But consider what it’s like to have the same lawmakers who failed to protect our rights turn around and call us 'people with uteruses.' It’s not inclusive if cis women hate it," she tweeted back.

There were many other comments thrown at Kasparian that accuse her of just falling for the conservative propaganda that is hurled against trans people out of hatred and vitriol. They told Kasparian that she's not losing anything by being inclusive and allowing language to be transformed to include trans individuals.

"Actually thought you were one of the good ones but clearly I was wrong. Buying into the transphobic hysteria and spreading more Ignorance and hate to a minority going through absolute hell right now.. Shameful," a fan commented.

She was promptly called a transphobe who betrayed the progressive agenda she claimed to uphold for so many years.

"You made transphobic statements and we spent an hour of the show defending you from allegations of being a TERF rather than addressing the substantive problems w/ your comment," @msolurin tweeted at Kasparian.

"Lol! The meltdowns over wanting be referred to as a woman rather than a 'birthing person' is pretty wild. I’ll never apologize for that, especially as biological woman who has had a f*cking lifetime of being told I’m less than. I’m a woman. No apologies," she responded.

Kasparian has refused to apologize for her original tweet and didn't remove it from her page. When prompted if she had ever actually been referred to as a birthing person, she said she had, as she lives in California, where it's common to hear this kind of language assigned to women.

These exchanges have been surprising to watch, as Kasparian has been one of the more progressive commentators online. Many people on the right are celebrating her common sense approach to an ideology that has swept the nation and resulted in much confusion and outrage. Time will tell if Kasparian remains on this trajectory or if she will retract her statements.
