Princess Diana's Legendary Photographer Patrick Demarchelier Dies At 78 Years Old

Demarchelier was a French photographer who worked for both Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, and he was Princess Diana's personal photographer at one point. He has died at 78 years old, as reported today.

Patrick Demarchelier Has Died at 78 Years Old

The French photographer shot his first cover in 1977 and became known worldwide for his 1989 cover shoot of Madonna. He is the first non-British photographer that worked for the royal family; Princess Diana discovered him as a Vogue reader. He has shot some of the biggest names in the industry, from Kate Moss to Beyoncé to Hillary Clinton.

Today on his official Instagram, his family released a message announcing his passing.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick Demarchelier on March 31st 2022, at the age of 78," the caption read. "He is survived by his wife Mia, his three sons Gustaf, Arthur, Victor and three grandchildren."

We have yet to be told the cause of his death.
