On Saturday night in a busy area of Philadelphia called South Street, there were hundreds of locals and visitors enjoying their weekend. Suddenly, multiple gunshots were fired into a crowd. The police are still on the hunt for the suspects who are responsible for this shooting.

Reportedly, the violence began because of an altercation between two men. One of the men opened fire just before midnight, and one police officer saw a gunman shooting into a large crowd before he dropped the weapon and ran off. "You can imagine, there were hundreds of individuals just enjoying South Street, as they do every single weekend, when this shooting broke out," Philadelphia Police Department spokesperson D.F. Pace said in a press conference.

Three people died: a 34-year-old man, a 27-year-old woman, and a 22-year-old man. There were 11 people injured from this shooting, and their ages ranged between 17 and 69. Police say that five different guns were fired and two of them were recovered at the scene. Unfortunately, the suspects are still on the loose.

Although we may not hear about shootings like this on a regular basis, these are far from uncommon. This past weekend alone resulted in at least 12 mass shooting across the U.S., including Chattanooga, TN, where three people died near a nightclub, Saginaw, MI, where three people died, Phoenix, AZ, where a 14-year-old girl died and eight others were wounded, and Omaha, NE, where one was killed.

There is no denying that our country is in the middle of a gun violence epidemic, and sadly the measures being taken—such as "gun control"—don't address the root causes. As a results, gun violence continues in major cities across our country.
