Paris Hilton Just Responded To The Internet Mom-Shaming Her Over A Halloween Costume

Apparently, even a toddler’s teacup costume now requires a public explanation. Paris Hilton’s family dressed as Beauty and the Beast characters for Halloween, with Paris wearing Belle’s yellow gown and husband Carter Reum transforming into the Beast. Their children, Phoenix, 3, and London, 2, appeared as Lumière and Chip. Cue the argument over why Mom got to be the princess. The internet had opinions The criticism centered on the idea that Paris had reserved the glamorous role for herself while relegating her children to supporting characters. Some commenters treated the photograph as evidence of selfish parenting , rather than a family wearing coordinated costumes . “Main character when it should be your kids moment,” one commenter wrote. Another asked , “Why not let your daughter be Belle?” On X, one user objected to “making yourself the princess and your daughter mrs potts.” Another post made a similar complaint . Elsewhere, commenters escalated to calling Paris a narcissist . That is quite a conclusion to draw from a yellow dress and a small child in a teacup costume. Paris says London chose Chip Paris eventually offered a much simpler explanation. According to Us Weekly , she responded to an Instagram video discussing the controversy, explaining that her children love the movie and London specifically requested Chip. “She said it was her favorite character in the movie,” Paris wrote . Which seems entirely plausible if you have ever met a toddler. Adults might see the beautiful princess and the elaborate gown. A little girl might see a tiny talking teacup who blows bubbles and decide he’s the cutest thing in the movie. I preferred the mice to Cinderella when I was a toddler. The cute little characters are often the ones children love most. Her kids have been the leads before There’s also some inconvenient context for the theory that Paris refuses to let her children have the starring roles. For Halloween in 2025, Phoenix and London dressed as Peter Pan and Wendy, while Paris was Tinker Bell and Carter was Captain Hook. The family also did a Toy Story theme, with the children dressed as Buzz Lightyear and Jessie . None of us can reconstruct a family’s costume negotiations from a photograph. But assuming a little girl was denied something simply because her mother looks glamorous is a strange way to defend her wishes. London is 2. She wanted to be a teacup, and her mother let her. If the internet needs a villain in this story, it will have to look somewhere other than the woman who said yes to her daughter.
