Miley Cyrus is an animal lover who has rescued many dogs and has multiple animals on her properties in Nashville and Calabasas. She has spoken out for years about the benefits and ethics of her vegan diet, but in 2020 she shocked the world when she announced that she decided to leave behind her vegan diet for health reasons.

Miley Cyrus Abandoned Her Vegan Diet Because Her "Brain Wasn't Functioning Properly"

In her 2020 interview on the Joe Rogan Experience, Miley admitted that she gave up her vegan diet, which came as a surprise to many. “I was vegan for a very long time, and I’ve had to introduce fish and omegas into my life because my brain wasn’t functioning properly,” Miley, 27, admitted. She was vegan from 2013 to 2019, so it was not an easy decision for her to switch things up.

"Now I'm so much sharper than I was, and I think at one point that I was pretty malnutritioned," she explained. "I was running on empty." Joe asked if she was "doing it intelligently," and she responded affirmatively, saying that she was doing all the supplements, making the protein shakes, etc. But it just wasn't enough at the end of the day.

Joe joked that the vegans would come for her after this news. "They're going to come for me, but that's okay," she said. It's clear that her health is more important than holding onto a diet that wasn't working for her just to appease some activists.

Miley's decision isn't surprising, considering that veganism can result in nutritional deficiencies of many kinds, including low levels of B12, iron deficiencies, and lack of omega-3 fatty acids. It seems like Miley is doing better than ever after she started introducing fish and meat into her diet.
