Internet personalities have taken over social media platforms, including stars Logan Paul and Olajide Olayinka Williams, or KSI. The two YouTubers partnered in 2022 to drop Prime Hydration, a company selling caffeine-free sports drinks and 12oz energy drinks containing 200mg of caffeine each.

In 2023, the brand came under fire after physicians and lawmakers said the high levels of caffeine can be harmful to children, who make up a large portion of the YouTuber's fanbase. Pediatricians recommend that kids under 12 should avoid caffeine entirely, while children from 12 to 18 should limit their intake to 100mg per day.

In addition to the high caffeine content, their Prime Hydration Grape Sports Drink is alleged to contain significant levels of PFAS, otherwise known as forever chemicals, due to their indestructible nature and the ability to remain in the human body and bioaccumulate over time. They're found in nearly every household product, from nonstick cookware to stain-resistant fabrics, cosmetics, water-repellent clothing, and more. Exposure to low levels of PFAS can cause a variety of health problems, including fertility issues, thyroid disorders, liver disease, elevated cholesterol, increased cancer risk, and damage to the immune system.

The company is now facing a class-action lawsuit that revealed the presence of these chemicals in Prime Hydration grape flavor following third-party testing.

According to the court documents, the product "exposes hundreds of thousands of unsuspecting consumers to toxic synthetic chemicals in direct contradiction to their uniform label claims," and that PFAS renders the products "adulterated, misbranded, and illegal to sell."

What's frightening is that the plaintiff reports the amount of "PFOS found within the Product from Plaintiff’s testing is approximately three times the recommended lifetime health advisory for drinking water."

A lawyer on TikTok alleges that their office was contacted after a young boy got leukemia after drinking Prime Hydration, noting that "PFOS and PFAS have been linked to specific types of cancers."

Last year, Paul defended his brand after Canada issued a recall due to the high levels of caffeine, stating that the media had spread "misinformation" about the recall. “They know that if they talk about PRIME, whether the information they’re spreading is true or not, they will get attention on a product that is legitimately better for you, lower in sugar, lower in calories, and healthier ingredients than most of our competitors," he said. "So, you know, it actually doesn’t surprise me that we’re being targeted by massive corporate conglomerates and the United States government because, using social media, we’ve effectively created a beverage so disruptive that it is eating the market share of the biggest corps on the planet."

“And quite frankly, they’re pissed. We’re taking money out of their pocket, but honestly, I’m happy that people are seeing through the BS. I think the government and traditional media underestimate the collective intelligence of you, the American people. And although some people will be fooled, I am thankful that social media has given us underdogs, trying to make a business, a disruptive, better-for-you business, a voice to talk about the truth. Don’t be fooled by the media."
