Lizzie is BACK! Break out the hair crimper, butterfly clips, and feather ponytail hair-ties! We’re going back to the 2000s. Disney did NOT come to play with all this nostalgia they’re giving us!

The new streaming service, Disney+, is officially doing a reboot of the beloved hit show, Lizzie McGuire! Only this time, our girl is young & fun & a grown 30-year-old woman thriving in the concrete jungle of New York City! And yes, starring the O.G., Ms. Hilary Duff, herself.

"SURPRISE! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works! Back with my girl ❤ ...and into her 30’s.” - Hilary Duff, Instagram.

The opening of the series will introduce us to the new grown-up Lizzie.
It should be no surprise to anyone that 2003 proved to be a banner year for Hilary Duff, as the 16-year-old also starred in three hit movies — Agent Cody Banks, The Lizzie McGuire Movie and Cheaper by the Dozen. Lest we forget to mention her 3x platinum smash album Metamorphosis!! (Which of course I had to have! One of my faves of all time. Yes, I admit it. #NoShame). Which funnily enough is 16-years to the date of the reboot reveal. Coincidence? I think not.

The reboot is set to open up by introducing us to the new and improved Lizzie. "Lizzie has grown older, she’s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget.” Hilary laughs at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA this past weekend. Duff continues to say, “She has her dream job, the perfect life right now working as an apprentice to a fancy New York City decorator AND the perfect man who owns a swanky restaurant. She’s also getting ready to celebrate her 30th birthday in the Big Apple."

Hilary also revealed that not only will Lizzie's avatar be featured in the show, but she'll sport the same outfit! Very TBT Disney+. Well played.

What We Know So Far

Hilary also told fans via Insta Story that she is beyond excited. “Honestly, I've thought about what I would say for quite a few days now, and I don't really have words. It's crazy. I've really missed her. I think now is a great time for her to come back in her 30s. You know, she's everybody's best friend, and I can't wait to go on this next chapter with her, and I hope everyone is as excited as I am.”

Hilary Duff posted the news on her Instagram page Friday night, Aug 23, 2019, that she will be reviving her famous role as Lizzie McGuire. As well as a video compilation of moments from the original Disney Channel show. When the world met Lizzie (and her sassy, animated inner voice), she was 13 years old. But when we see her next, she will be in her 30s.

We're not sure if she'll be a mom with a tween of her own, or if the series will be aimed more at adults and follow Lizzie trying to figure things out as a single, childless millennial like a lot of us today in our early 30s. Either way, I'm sure it will be amazing.

Duff goes on to say, “Lizzie was there for such pivotal moments in preteen lives. Entering your 30s is a really big deal. I think – and I think Disney agrees – but I think it’s just the right time for her to step back in and to have her go along with you in your 30s. All of the fun times and all of the big monumental moments that you’re faced with, I just thought that was such an opportunity there for her to be grown up and for her to be there for women again." I can’t wait to watch this on Disney+.

Now, there's no word yet if other members of the original cast will reprise their roles in the new series, but we're definitely hoping to see Lalaine and Adam Lamberg, who played Lizzie's besties, Miranda and Gordo in the reboot. As a matter of fact, at the D23 convention, the actress dropped in a little bug in our ears about other OG cast members potentially signing on for the series. "The whole cast is such a big part of the show, and we have a lot of surprises in store for viewers.” Duff teased.

Original Lizzie

The world-famous Lizzie McGuire first aired on Disney Channel on January 12th, 2001. The series finale came to wrap on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 2004.

The original series follows Lizzie McGuire, centering around a 13-year-old girl’s life, dealing with her family, mostly her parents (Jo & Sam McGuire, plus her annoying younger brother, Matt), and the normal teenage issues that we’ve all been through. Lizzie dreams of being popular at school, with the help of her best friends Miranda and Gordo by her side the entire way.

Conclusion

The only other thing we know for sure about the reboot's premiere date is that will be sometime after November 12 when the Disney+ streaming service officially launches, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Note: As an added bonus, catch back up on all the 2000s fun on Disney+ who will also be adding The Lizzie McGuire Movie to their library so you can catch up on all the old school vibes before we head to the big city together for a new adventure.
