In an exclusive interview with Bustle, the oldest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan opened up about what her experience was really like filming KUWTK. Many fans watched her on the show in the later seasons and couldn't help but notice that she wasn't happy with the show being filmed at all. Well, they weren't exactly wrong.

Kourtney Kardashian Says the KUWTK Environment Was "Really Toxic"

The 42-year-old mother and entrepreneur is known for her cut-and-dry attitude, healthy lifestyle choices, and devotion to her kids. But as much as she loves her family, there were plenty of moments in KUWTK when Kourtney seemed to be disinterested in filming the show — and that's because she was.

“Shooting our show, it became a really toxic environment at the end for me,” Kourtney said. “I would fight with my sisters. There was, like, just a lot going on. And even for me personally, I wasn’t in the happiest place.”

She went on to say that she felt like she was acting into a character rather than being herself. “‘This is Kourtney, and she’s in a bad mood," she continued. "'So even though she was laughing really at lunch, we’re going to cut out the laughing and let’s only use the annoying comment that she said.’”

“Shooting our show, it became a really toxic environment at the end for me."

It eventually got to the point where the other Kardashian sisters approached Kourtney about her lack of participation in the show and thus lack of participation in their family enterprise, and this became a prominent storyline. In the meantime, Kourtney said she had to "give myself a pep talk before walking in" to film because she was so unhappy with everything.

“Like, say we were shooting at Khloé’s house," Kourtney said. "I’d be like, ‘It’s going to be a good day. Let’s have a good mood. Let’s put a smile on our face.’”

“I see the growth that comes from those unhappy places which make it all worth it."

Most of the time, the pep talk didn't work. She was still miserable with how the show was developing and how pressured she felt to put on a face.

But Kourtney adds that she's in a good place now, and there's nobody that she'd rather spend time with than her sisters. Not only has her relationship with her sisters improved, but she's happily engaged to Travis Barker and is experiencing success with her wellness brand Poosh.

“I see the growth that comes from those unhappy places which make it all worth it," she said. "I'm like, ‘If we didn't go through these roller coasters, you wouldn't get to the good part.’"
