The 2026 Kids Gift Guide: Gifts They'll Play With Long After Christmas

Mom of three, reporting for duty. When I was pregnant with my first, I dreamed of a beautifully tidy, aesthetic home filled with handcrafted Montessori toys and nothing else. Everything had a place in my mind, there were no hunks of ringing plastic, and all of the puzzle pieces were perfectly sorted in one place. Then I actually gave birth, and, mama, that vision flew out the window faster than my 3-year-old can dump a 500-piece puzzle. Now, for the most part, I do still try to stick to intentional, well-made toys rather than plastic junk that will break within the hour. We’re a tablet-free household, but certainly not plastic-free or color-coordinated any longer, despite what my Pinterest board might suggest. I’ve learned to lean into the chaos a bit over the last five years and have actually come to enjoy seeing my kids’ toys strewn about, especially when they bring them joy (and entertain them for more than five minutes). My kids are 1, 3, and 5, and I also have eight nieces and nephews. Needless to say, we’ve bought and tested out our fair share of toys over the years. Enough to learn what’s overpriced or overhyped, and what actually lasts and gets used day after day. Most of these gift ideas I’ve either bought and tried personally, or they’re on our wish list for this Christmas (because yes, we wrote our letters to Santa mid-October). Each age group in this guide splits into For Girls and For Boys, and each of those lists runs from lowest to highest price, so you can scroll to your budget and stop. From one mom to another, happy shopping, and may you find the gift your kids will cherish for years (or at least months) to come! Evie’s product selections are curated by the editorial team. If you buy something through our links, we may earn an affiliate commission, at no cost to you. We only recommend products we genuinely love.
