After a Twitter bombshell of an announcement that he was going to run for President, Kanye West just keeps on going.

Kanye held his first campaign event in Charleston, South Carolina on Sunday, July 19, at which he dropped two more — very personal — bombshells. Both he and his daughter North were almost aborted.

Kanye recalled how his wife Kim Kardashian West broke the news to him of their first pregnancy, how she had left the doctor’s office in tears, and how Kanye was not happy to hear that he had become a father.

Kanye was not happy to hear that he had become a father.

Kanye said, “I was living the rapper’s lifestyle… She said she was pregnant, and for one month and two months and three months, we talked about her not having this child. She had the pills in her hand…. These pills, if you take the pills, that’s a wrap. The baby’s gone.”

The couple argued about aborting their child until Kanye had a spiritual experience that changed his mind. Kanye said, “I’m in the apartment in Paris...and I have my laptop up and I got all of my creative ideas…and the screen went black and white. And God said, ‘If you f*** with my vision, I’m gonna f*** with yours’.” Kanye immediately called Kim, “and she said ‘We’re gonna have this baby’. I said, ‘We’re gonna have this child’.”

Kanye then revealed that he himself had almost been aborted as well: “You know who else protected a child?… Forty-three years ago, who do you think protected a child? My mom saved my life! My dad wanted to abort me. My mom saved my life! There would have been no Kanye West because my dad was too busy.”

Kim stood up and she protected that child.

Kanye expressed gratitude for his children and the joy they bring to his life. He praised his wife because she “brought North into the world even when I didn’t want to. She stood up and she protected that child.”

Earlier in July, Kanye told Forbes that he was pro-life because he was “following the word of the Bible,” but I would bet the “what-could-have-been” is also a factor in his pro-life stance.
