JoJo Siwa managed to blow up the start of Pride Month with a shocking reveal: it's no longer platonic between her and Chris Hughes.

On June 2, Siwa confirmed to The Guardian that she’s officially in a romantic relationship with Hughes, the former Love Island contestant she met during Celebrity Big Brother UK. “It’s been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and I’m absolutely head over heels for him and he’s the same way.”

Less than two months ago, Siwa was dating Kath Ebbs and identifying as a lesbian. Then, on the show, Siwa thought she was queer, even telling singer Danny Beard on camera, “F*ck the L, I’m going to the Q!”

On June 1 (the literal first day of Pride Month), she's seen being kissed on the forehead in a shirtless Snapchat by a 32-year-old British reality star.

“ON THE FIRST DAY OF PRIDE MONTH?!??” wrote @yslonika on X, collecting nearly 300,000 likes and countless quote tweets dripping with disbelief.

The internet watched the duo's relationship blossom in real-time on Big Brother, and it was awkward, emotional, but oddly compelling. Hughes defended Siwa after Mickey Rourke’s comments in the first episode. From there, they were spooning, whispering in bed, and exchanging forehead kisses like they’d been dating for years. At one point, Siwa even said, “I feel guilty for how happy I’ve been.”

Their connection was strong enough that Siwa dumped Ebbs at the Celebrity Big Brother wrap party, which Ebbs later described as “a complete state of shock.” In an emotional Instagram Reel, Ebbs explained that the breakup was as abrupt as it looked. “I was told that there are confused feelings there,” they said. “And that they had realized in the house that I wasn’t the person that they wanted to spend the foreseeable future with.”

Siwa later said the breakup wasn’t planned, but when Ebbs asked if she was happy, she answered honestly, “One thing led to another, and that conversation did take place there.”

So Much for “Soulmate Friendship”

Right after the show ended, both Siwa and Hughes insisted what they had was just “a really strong bond.” Hughes even described it as “a soulmate friendship.” But if you looked at the way they were holding each other in those Instagram dumps, you'd probably guess otherwise.

Fast-forward a few weeks, and Siwa finally tells the viewers that it's romantic.

Still, she’s aware of the noise. “We’re not faking a thing,” she told The Guardian, brushing off the inevitable PR stunt accusations. “Clearly, you’ve never been around us. I won’t ever speak for him, but for me personally, the happiness in my life just radiates off of me right now.” And then came the kicker: “Literally yesterday, I was massaging my cheeks; I’ve never [before] been in pain from smiling so much.”

Even her parents are in on it, and Chris Hughes has been posting photos with Siwa’s mom and dad.

JoJo Has Moved On

Siwa’s public identity has been in flux for a while. When she declared she was switching letters in the LGBTQ+ acronym, it was cheeky, but now it reads like a prelude. She told The Guardian that she’s been accused of changing her sexuality for attention. But if she’s shaken by it, she isn’t showing it. “You know when you’re alone, how you feel? You are your true, raw self. I’ve obviously felt like that before, but never around one single person.”
