While Joe Biden continues to fund wars, 61% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, and 1 in every 500 Americans is homeless.

According to AP News, Biden signed the bill into law after it passed in a 79-18 vote. He immediately approved sending Ukraine $1 billion in military assistance out of the $61 billion allocated to the country. $26 billion will be sent to Israel and "about $1 billion in humanitarian relief for Palestinians in Gaza suffering as the Israel-Hamas war continues." Despite giving a ridiculous amount of taxpayers' money to Ukraine for military aid, he said today was a “good day for America, a good day for Ukraine, and a good day for world peace.”

In addition to these new measurements, TikTok's Beijing-based parent company, ByteDance, must sell the platform within nine months or face a nationwide ban. The Biden administration and a "bipartisan" group of lawmakers have identified the social media platform as an "escalating national security risk" – a claim that ByteDance disputes. However, many people believe that this is just another measure of control to disallow certain narratives and, therefore, is a violation of free speech. Unlike most heavily censored social media platforms, TikTok has awakened many members of Gen Z to the crimes committed by the government and Big Pharma.

The app is Chinese-owned, so it makes sense why the U.S. cannot heavily censor individuals who want to speak the truth. "The passage of the House TikTok ban is not just a misguided overreach; it's a draconian measure that stifles free expression, tramples constitutional rights, and disrupts the economic pursuits of millions of Americans," wrote Senator Rand Paul in March. "With an iron fist, Congress dictated an unrealistic and narrow path for divestment, effectively banning TikTok and ignoring its substantial investments in data security. This act is not securing our nation – it's a disturbing gift of unprecedented authority to President Biden and the Surveillance State that threatens the very core of American digital innovation and free expression."

Others who opposed the measure have noted that the U.S. has yet to provide public evidence that shows TikTok sharing user information with Chinese authorities. May I remind everyone that Facebook sold our data, and AT&T reported a data breach affecting millions of users? Yet, their operations continue.

The ban may also lead to what is akin to Patriot Act 2.0. If you've been paying attention, the bill will not just ban the app but other applications not based in the U.S. The bill would then allow the government to ban other sites or applications they cannot control. We'd all live in an environment where our sources of information are constructed by American "journalists" (I'd rather call them propagandists) and mainstream news sites.

There are already potential buyers eyeing the popular video platform, including former United States Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, who has alleged ties to Israel. Is it possible that his group wants to purchase the app to suppress the countless videos that have been made in Gaza?

Besides stifling free speech, the ban also raises concerns of content creators and small business owners who rely on the app to sell their products. TikTok has been instrumental in allowing Americans to earn income rather than working for a corporation.

The bill's passage has shown us once again that the government is not there to protect or serve Americans; it is a tool used by the rich and the elites to protect themselves. Citizens are drowning in debt as household expenses grow faster than income. Americans owe nearly $1 trillion in credit card debt. An estimated 44% of Americans are struggling to pay for healthcare. The country itself owes $33.74 trillion in federal debt. America is facing a domestic crisis. Our people are suffering, but they can prioritize wars and the banning of TikTok. The government has overlooked the needs of its citizens, and I fear this will soon backfire.

Singaporean TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew has spoken out following Biden's approval. "Make no mistake, this is a ban. A ban on TikTok and a ban on you and your voice. Politicians may see otherwise, but don't get confused," he said in a video. "Many who sponsored the Bill admit a TikTok ban is the ultimate goal."

Chew said the decision was ironic "because the freedom of expression on TikTok reflects the same American values that make the United States a beacon of freedom." For now, the mogul will fight to keep the TikTok community going.

"Rest assured, we aren't going anywhere," he added. "We are confident, and we will keep fighting for your rights in the courts. The facts and the Constitution are on our side, and we will expect to prevail again."
