Jane Fonda is also known for staying in incredible shape and keeping herself healthy. She's spoken many times about what it means to age gracefully, and she spoke about the aging process once again this weekend as she was promoting her Netflix show Grace and Frankie, which has its final episodes premiering on April 29. While she may look much younger than 84 years old, Fonda jokes about what it's like to be old.

Jane Fonda Jokes That She's "Closer to Death" and Reveals She Quit Drinking Alcohol

Fonda and co-star Lily Tomlin sat down with CBS Sunday Morning to talk about their time together on set and the conversation quickly turned to how they stay healthy at an older age. Fonda is known to be a fitness junkie, having released a popular series of workout DVDs in the 1980s and maintaining a trim figure well into her 80s. However, she's under no illusion that she's getting older by the day.

"I'm super-conscious that I'm closer to death," she joked. "And it doesn't really bother me that much. What bothers me is that my body is, you know, basically not mine! My knees are not mine, my hips are not mine, my shoulder's not mine. You're looking at somebody who's only me from here up."

"The fact is, if you're alive and relatively healthy at an older – I mean, I'm almost 85," she said. "The fact that I'm still alive and working, wow, who cares if I don't have my old joints? And I can't ski or bike or run anymore? Enh. You know, you can be really old at 60, and you can be really young at 85. Health!"

There are a few different things that Fonda does to stay healthy. Of course she exercises regularly—one thing she does daily is takes long walks—but she also maintains a balanced diet and keeps herself busy with work so she doesn't get too bored. But there's another recent development: she also stopped drinking alcohol.

"And here's why: It's because even with one drink, like, if I had a martini tonight, I would be at half-mast tomorrow," Fonda explained. "Now, that wasn't true when I was younger. But as you get older, I think alcohol affects you differently. And I only have so many tomorrows left. I don't want to be at half-mast for any of them!"

It seems to be working out for her because she looks truly amazing for her age.
