Is Pheromone Perfume The Key To Attracting Your Crush?
Who knew a perfume could be so powerful? Maybe attracting your crush is a lot simpler than you think. This pheromone perfume has been going viral on social media for making your boyfriend or husband go crazy for you.
"It smells like the feeling of being in love," says TikTok influencer Rachel Rigler, after testing it out on her boyfriend. Apparently, this perfume is supposed to mimic the smell of the person you are attracted to. In her TikTok, Rachel sprays it on her boyfriend Adam’s wrist. He sniffs the perfume, then says, “That’s bizarre.” He takes another big sniff and says, “It smells like you, fresh out of the shower, in a robe.” He’s clearly shocked at the sensory experience, passing between speechlessness and exclaiming “That’s not real.” Both Rachel and Adam are impressed with how light the scent is…and how it smells just like Rachel. The perfume she used is “Missing Person” by Phlur.
Can Science Back This Up?
Pheromones are chemical signals which help communicate between members of the same species. It combines with your body’s pH and sets off the personal scent of someone you are familiar with. This is why it’s said to make someone fall in love with you, as it attracts them to your scent. Not all scientists agree that humans have pheromones, though, which is where the perfume comes into play.
Adjunct professor and neuroscientist, Rachel Herz, explains that mood and smell are connected. A smell can trigger emotions, memories, and familiar experiences. This is the key to the perfume – triggering the scent of someone or something, which is pleasant because it's familiar.
Cosmetic biochemist Nausheen Qureshi says that the scientific studies on pheromones often revolve around sweat, as its compounds create a personalized scent. She isn’t completely convinced of the influence the perfume has in contrast to natural pheromones, but understands the concept.
Skeptics Turned into Believers
In another TikTok, pheromone skeptic Akana decided to test it out for herself. She bought the Pure Instinct Pheromone Unisex Perfume Oil and applied it before heading into Target. She returned to her car giddy and completely shocked, as she excitedly tells her followers that while in Target, she was asked on a date. “I just got asked out in Target. Did that just really happen? I feel like I’ve been going to Target for years hoping to meet my husband, but is this my moment? I’ve never been asked out in person before.”
There is quite a mixed bag of reviews on this product. While some are stunned at the outcome from this perfume, others are not as impressed. In a different Tik Tok, digital creator Valerie Gonzalez put on the perfume before and during her workout at the gym, but got no feedback from it. No one approached her while wearing the perfume.
Love at First Sight or Pheromones?
The perfume may be trending now, but it’s not completely new. A study from 2022 suggests, “Women who wore perfume with synthesized female pheromone were more attractive to their male partners” Scientists at San Francisco State University found that “women who had pheromone added to their perfume reported a more than 50 percent increase in sexual attention from men.”
The particular pheromone used in this study was a “generic substrate, a substance that when put on someone's skin reacts with that person's own chemistry to achieve its effect.”
The Vida Consultancy claims that applying topical pheromones that mimic natural human pheromones can have a major effect on your sex life and increase your attractiveness to potential love interests in your life. They say that several studies show the effectiveness it has on getting a date, increasing intimacy in your relationship, and even feeling more confident in yourself.

In the long run, attracting your crush is more than just carrying a certain smell. But one really unique thing about this perfume is that it can remind someone of you with just a scent. While some think pheromone perfume has little to no effectiveness, some studies claim that it’s a sure thing.
