Julia Garner has grabbed everyone’s attention over the last couple years with her performances in "Ozark" and "Inventing Anna." She may be taking on an even bigger project in the coming year.
Pop sensation Madonna is now 63 years old, but her hit singles such as “Like a Virgin” and “Like a Prayer” will always live on as some of the most well-known songs to ever reach the Billboard charts. According to Variety, she’ll be heading up a new film that will cover her life—and Julia Garner may be the one to play her.
“Inventing Anna” Actress Julia Garner May Star as Madonna in Upcoming Biopic
The Madonna biopic is associated with Universal Pictures, and there were more than 12 candidates considered to take on the role, such as Florence Pugh, Alexa Demie, Odessa Young, and Bebe Rexha. But Garner has captured the attention of the producers, and she has been offered the role of Madonna. Her team has yet to give an answer on whether she will accept, but Variety reports that they’re expected to say yes.
Madonna’s hope is to “convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer—a human being, trying to make her way in this world.” She wants the focus of the biopic to be her music.
“Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive,” she said. “There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision."
This biopic is set to follow Madonna in the early days of her career. There is no timeline set so we have no idea when the film will be released.
