I’ve Shared My Outfits Online For Years: Here’s What I've Learned Actually Makes You Stylish

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved clothes, makeup, and everything in the beauty aisle. After becoming a mom of three, that love only deepened.

I started my fashion blog on a whim when my youngest was barely a year old, hoping to connect with other moms who wanted to look cute and put together without sacrificing comfort. What began as a fun way to share easy outfit ideas with friends and family slowly grew into a full-time business.

Somewhere along the way, I learned that style isn’t about stuffing your closet or chasing every trend. It’s about knowing who you are, investing in pieces that last, and letting confidence do most of the heavy lifting. After years of creating content, refining my own wardrobe, and figuring out what actually works in real life, I’ve discovered that great style starts with simplicity, and even more importantly, with self-assurance.

Here are six of the most valuable style lessons I’ve learned along the way.

1. Style Starts with Great Staples

Trends come and go, but great basics are forever. A truly stylish wardrobe doesn’t begin with loud statement pieces; it begins with the quiet essentials that make everything else work. When you build your closet on a foundation of timeless, high-quality staples, you’ll never stare at your hangers wondering what to wear.

Think of your wardrobe like a house. You need a solid foundation before you can decorate it. For me, that foundation is simple: perfectly fitting denim, a crisp white shirt, a classic blazer, a little black dress, and comfortable yet chic shoes. These pieces don’t try too hard, but they always show up. Once you have them in place, you can play with personality: a beautiful watch, a piece of meaningful jewelry, a structured handbag.

I’ll never forget one of the first outfits I ever posted. I was in straight-leg jeans and a white tee, chasing my daughter Laila around the kitchen. That photo outperformed a trend-heavy look I had shared earlier that week, and it taught me something important. Timeless basics always win.

When you invest in quality foundations, getting dressed becomes effortless. You will have endless combinations to mix, match, and throw on without even thinking. Great style doesn’t require more clothes, just better ones.

2. Stick to Your Own Style

With endless trends, aesthetics, and “must-have” pieces filling our feeds, it is easy to lose sight of what actually feels like you. Social media can make it tempting to chase the next big thing or compare your closet to someone else’s highlight reel. The truth is that the most stylish women are not copying anyone. They are expressing who they are through what they wear.

Sticking to your own style matters. The most confident version of yourself is the one who feels comfortable, not only in your skin but in your clothes. When you wear something that feels true to you, you naturally stand taller, smile brighter, and move through your day with more ease.

After I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I took a hard look at my closet and realized that half of what I owned no longer felt like me. As a mom of three, refining my wardrobe became more about fewer choices and smarter picks. It is possible to look elevated and effortless while still feeling like yourself. Whether I am rushing out the door for school pickup or taking our puppy Remy on a walk, I try to build a collection of pieces I can reach for quickly so I feel comfortable and put together.

Staying true to yourself is always the goal, even in fashion. If you feel comfortable, you will feel confident, and that confidence is what makes an outfit shine. Style is personal, and your wardrobe should reflect who you are, not who you think you should be.

3. Embrace Seasonal Classics

Every season carries its own mood, and I love letting that energy inspire what I wear. Fall has always been one of my favorite times to dress for. There is something timeless about autumn style: the layering, the textures, the cozy knits, and the warm earthy tones that instantly elevate any outfit.

Once the temperature begins to drop, I reach for pieces that feel both chic and comfortable. Nothing captures fall style quite like the perfect pair of denim and a cashmere sweater, two staples that never lose their appeal. Whether it is the jeans that fit you perfectly or the pair that feels relaxed and lived-in, great denim has a way of grounding any look. Paired with a soft cashmere sweater, it creates the ideal blend of warmth and polish.

Seasonal classics are the secret to looking pulled together with minimal effort. They’re the pieces that never fail you and are also the ones that instantly make you feel confident and chic without overthinking your outfit. For fall, that means trench coats, soft cashmere sweaters, and versatile dresses you can layer with boots or a jacket. For spring, I lean toward crisp whites, light denim, and breezy cotton fabrics that feel fresh and effortless.

4. Style Should Evolve with You

Just like we grow and change as people, our style should grow with us, too. The pieces that made you feel confident five years ago might not serve you in the same way today, and that’s okay. Your wardrobe should be a reflection of your evolution, not a snapshot frozen in time.

We all move through different seasons of life, from career shifts and motherhood to health challenges and everything in between. Each chapter brings new priorities and new perspectives. Naturally, the way we dress begins to shift, too. What once felt bold and exciting might now feel impractical, and what once seemed simple might now feel effortlessly chic. That’s the beauty of growth!

Over the years, my style has grown and evolved with each chapter of my life. I’ve experimented with trends, explored new silhouettes, and embraced creative risks. Now, in my 40s and with my kids getting older, I gravitate toward elevated basics and clean, tailored pieces that feel sophisticated yet comfortable, letting go of anything that no longer reflects who I am today.

Fashion is one of the most fun ways to express who you are, but it should also reflect where you are. Let your style evolve naturally, without pressure to define it in a single word or aesthetic.

5. Quality over Quantity Always Wins

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned throughout the years, especially as someone who’s constantly surrounded by new trends and brands, is that less is truly more. Early on, I felt like I had to keep up with every drop or seasonal trend, but over time, I realized that the best wardrobes aren’t the biggest ones; they’re the most thoughtful.

Early on, I felt like I had to keep up with every drop or seasonal trend, but over time, I realized that the best wardrobes aren’t the biggest ones; they’re the most thoughtful.

When you focus on quality over quantity, you build a closet that lasts. I’d rather have a few beautifully made pieces that fit perfectly and make me feel incredible than a pile of clothes I’ll wear once and forget about. Investing in well-made staples not only elevates your look but also saves time and money in the long run.

For me, that means saying yes to craftsmanship. One of my favorite examples is the Anessa High-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans from Paige. I’ve had mine for years, and they’ve held their shape perfectly wash after wash. I love how they instantly elevate a casual look while staying comfortable enough for chasing my kids or running errands. It’s about being intentional with every purchase and choosing items that reflect your personal style, not what’s trending at the moment. When you start valuing quality, you realize that style isn’t about having more, it’s about making more out of what you already have.

6. Rewearing is a Style Power Move

You don't need to avoid repeating outfits to be stylish, you just need to learn how to reinvent them. When you embrace rewearing, you unlock a whole set of fashion superpowers.

For starters, it showcases your creativity. Anyone can buy a brand-new outfit, but it takes real style intuition to take a staple piece and make it feel fresh again. Mixing textures, playing with layers, swapping accessories, that’s where the magic happens. One of my favorite tricks is taking simple athleisure and elevating it into street style with a chic jacket, a baseball cap, and great sneakers.

Rewearing also defines your personal style. The pieces you reach for again and again, your favorite blazer, those perfect jeans, the shoes that work with everything, become your signature. They’re the backbone of your wardrobe and the reason your style feels recognizable, intentional, and uniquely you.

The Final Takeaway

As I’ve grown, so has my relationship with fashion. What started as a love for clothes has become a way to celebrate who I am in every season of life. Style isn’t just about outfits; it’s about how we feel, how we show up, and how we let ourselves evolve.

It all starts with great staples. When you invest in quality basics, you build a wardrobe that is timeless, reliable, and endlessly mixable. Those perfect jeans, a crisp tee, and a classic black dress give you something to wear on any day without constantly needing something new.

From there, the magic happens when you stay true to your own personal style and let it shift with you. The most stylish women dress for themselves, not the algorithm. Confidence always looks better than any trend.

Finally, seasonal classics and intentional rewearing are where real style lives. Versatile pieces that transition year-round and the creativity to reimagine what you already own are the signs of a wardrobe, and a woman, who knows exactly who she is.
