How To Dress For Your Football Game Day On A Budget

Fall is upon us, and girls around the country are prepping for a season of pumpkin spice lattes, apple picking, and watching their favorite football teams chase a national championship or Superbowl.

But who are we fooling? Most girls prefer the tailgating, watch parties, and sports bar scene over what’s really happening on the turf or on our TV screens. (Girls who are forced to watch football by their boyfriends, we’re looking at you!)

So what should girls wear to a tailgate, a Sunday night watch party, or to their favorite sports bar? I remember in my own college days, this question re-emerged every Friday evening before game day, and led to frenetic closet dumps as my roommates and I desperately searched for the outfit.

For better and for worse, football gameday style has evolved into quite the fashion show, and for those girls attempting to keep up with gameday “couture” without breaking the bank, we’ve got your back.

Here are a few suggestions for how to spice up your outfits and look cute on game day.

White Tennis Skirts

White tennis skirts will look cute with any gameday t-shirt, and are pretty inexpensive on Amazon. Pair these cute white skirts with a gameday t-shirt – cropped or tied at the waist – and white sneakers. Add a denim jacket if you want a little extra something, or even pair it with a crew neck sweatshirt with your school’s logo if the weather is chilly. This feminine-sporty look never fails.

Oversized T-Shirts

Oversized t-shirts are your best friend. Dad’s old college t-shirts? A cheap oversized men’s shirt at your college bookstore? Hot tip: Oftentimes, men’s t-shirts are cheaper than women’s at university bookstores, and they make for very cute gameday outfits. Try wearing an oversized t-shirt with cowgirl boots and jean shorts for a country look. Or, look on Pinterest for the variety of ways to cut and style a plain t-shirt to make it more festive!

Denim Jackets

Denim jackets don’t have to be boring. Find iron-on patches of your team’s logo on Etsy, Amazon, or even eBay. Adding the logo to the back of your denim jacket, or stars and other cute patterns, is a tried-and-true method of glamming up any look.

Sundresses

Sundresses in your team’s colors often make for the best gameday outfits. Pair a cute sundress with a baseball cap with your school’s logo, and you’re certain to look like a babe. Who says girls can’t be feminine while watching football?

School Colors

Check out local thrift stores and the Walmart near your school. Oftentimes these locations have cute and affordable t-shirts, sweatshirts, and sweaters in your team’s colors, or even with your team’s logo on them! Shopping at a local thrift store in college helped me to find adorable vintage pieces for insanely good prices. Plus, whether or not you find cute pieces, it makes for a fun outing with your girlfriends!

Accessories

Go to your local Dollar Tree, Walmart, or even Amazon for glitter, cute headbands/bandanas, cheap obnoxious sunglasses, or a cute plastic cowgirl hat/baseball cap in your school’s colors. Adding just a little glitter and fun can make your outfit pop, and will be a good laugh with friends.

Go Cowgirl

Got cowgirl boots or a cowgirl hat? Add them! Adding a little country to any look is very in right now – and PSA, cowgirl boots are surprisingly comfy walking shoes.

Closing Thoughts

Figuring out outfits for game day can be stressful, especially when you feel like you’ve exhausted your clothing options but you don’t want to spend your life savings on clothes. Following a few of these tips will ensure you look cute, feminine, and sporty while cheering on your favorite team to victory.
