Florence Pugh Says It's "Just Alarming" That People Were Offended By The Viral Pink Dress That Showed Her Nipples

Actress Florence Pugh was the talk of town when she showed up to a Valentino fashion show wearing a sheer pink dress without a bra, leaving her bare nipples visible to the world.

Florence immediately responded on Instagram with a long caption about respecting women and urging people to stop being "so scared of breasts." She enthusiastically told people to "grow up" and accept women's bodies for what they are.

"I’m very grateful that I grew up in a household with very strong, powerful, curvy women. We were raised to find power in the creases of our body," she wrote. "To be loud about being comfortable. It has always been my mission in this industry to say ‘f*** it and f*** that’ whenever anyone expects my body to morph into an opinion of what’s hot or sexually attractive. I wore that dress because I know."

She still didn't respond to the many comments, though, about how inappropriate it was to show nudity on a social media site that kids and young teenagers use. In a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar, she doubled down on her choice to expose her nipples at the Valentino show.

Florence, 26, admitted that she knew the dress would cause a stir, but she decided to wear it anyway. She decided with the designer, Pierpaolo Piccioli, to remove the lining of the dress so there wouldn't be any question about showing her breasts.

“I was comfortable with my small breasts,” she said. “And showing them like that—it aggravated [people] that I was comfortable.”

She says people were rude to her online and made comments about her breasts that were cruel, and she says she just can't understand why her nipples would bother anyone. “It was just alarming, how perturbed they were,” she continued. “They were so angry that I was confident, and they wanted to let me know that they would never wank over me. Well, don’t.”

Again, she didn't respond to the reasonable criticism that showing nudity publicly and on social media is considered inappropriate in any other circumstance, but when you're a famous celebrity, you can get away with just about anything.

In the same interview, Florence talked about her breakup with Zach Braff, who is 21 years older than her.

“We’ve been trying to do this separation without the world knowing, because it’s been a relationship that everybody has an opinion on,” she said. “We just felt something like this would really do us the benefit of not having millions of people telling us how happy they are that we’re not together. So we’ve done that. I automatically get a lumpy throat when I talk about it.”

For now, she's focusing on her work and preparing for the release of Don't Worry Darling, a thriller directed by Olivia Wilde that will be released in September.
