Feminine Rainwear That Won’t Ruin Your Outfit

The best part of spring is the flowers, sun, and deep sense of renewal. The worst part is having to waterproof all of your outfits. Nothing ruins a cute fit more than a shapeless, bedraggled raincoat or a clunky pair of muddy boots.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt personally victimized by ugly rainwear. (Consider my own hand raised.) There have been many instances in which I’ve chosen to forgo a raincoat or boots simply because I didn’t want them to ruin my outfit. Misguided? Perhaps. But the sacrifice felt worth it during those moments. The regret always sets in later, after I’ve peeled off mud-laden suede shoes and set down water-stained leather bags.

It’s true that rainwear is a necessary evil. You might not want to spend your money on a fashionable umbrella or a pair of quality boots. But if you live where rain is a semi-regular factor, these pieces will also be some of the most used in your wardrobe. I recently added a stylish raincoat to my coat rack and, I kid you not, my entire world has changed for the better. I wish I had invested in stylish, weatherproof outerwear years ago.

If you’d like to do just that, here are the best feminine rainwear pieces that will keep you dry without ruining your outfit.

Umbrellas

Put down the chintzy freebie umbrella you received from your employer as an onboarding gift and pick up something more durable and stylish. It wasn’t until recently that I stopped viewing umbrellas as just another item cluttering the floor of my car and started viewing them as an opportunity to make my outfits more interesting.

Draper James Umbrella

Ultra-feminine and coming in at under $40, this is an easy add-to-cart option to replace your boring black umbrella.

Original Duckhead Powder Pink Duck Umbrella

Tell me how you can have a bad day while holding this adorable pink duck in your hand. Go ahead. I'll wait.

Rifle Paper Co. Garden Study Umbrella

Rifle Paper Co. is known for—you guessed it—paper products. But you can also purchase their signature whimsical prints on a number of adorned home and fashion pieces. This particular umbrella is fun and feminine with a sturdy design that can withstand more than the occasional sprinkle.

Ralph’s Coffee Umbrella

An umbrella from Ralph’s Coffee. Need I say more? The perfect accessory for coffee enthusiasts and admirers of classic Ralph Lauren style alike. The signature, rich green tone is elevated and feels on trend year-round.

LoveShackFancy Heirloom Print Marima Umbrella

LoveShackFancy is the ultimate designer of all things pink, frilly, and floral-adorned. If “girlhood” was a fashionable rain accessory, this would be it.

Coach Outlet Uv Protection Mini Umbrella In Pretty Signature

This compact Coach mini packs the brand's iconic signature print into a bag-friendly size that looks just as good on a sunny day as a rainy one. UV protection and a pretty pattern? Consider me sold.

NEXT US Pink Large Umbrella

If you're literally looking for frills in your day, this ruffled pink umbrella is the closest you'll get to fancy when it's pouring outside.

Rain Boots

There’s nothing sadder than losing a much-loved pair of shoes to rain and mud. Rain boots are practical (obviously) but they can also be a lot of fun. A sleek pair of classic Hunter boots screams chic UK style, while floral boots add springtime whimsy. Buy a pair you love and you may surprise yourself with how often you actually want it to rain.

Hunter Original Tall Rain Boots

I truly believe there's no one left that hasn't heard of the iconic Hunter brand. They make boots that are durable, stylish, and come in a wide variety of colors. Try pink or blue for an eye-catching, feminine accessory or go with classic black for a boot you’ll wear nearly all year long.

Hunter Tabitha Chelsea Rain Boot

Florals in the spring—not exactly groundbreaking, but a seasonal pairing we know and love. This whimsical pair from Hunter is less than $100 and would look adorable with cuffed jeans and a pastel sweater.

Muck Boot Rainscape Women's 12" Adjustable Rain Boot

These adjustable dusty rose Muck Boots mean you never have to choose between staying dry and actually liking what's on your feet. The 12" shaft handles the puddles while you handle the rest of your day.

Barbour Tempest Tall Waterproof Rain Boots

The olive green body and cognac trim of these boots make them an eye-catcher. Wear them alongside gingham shorts to the farmers’ market or paired with a trench while walking to the office. These boots possess a timeless quality that allows for easy restyling.

For Love & Lemons Brigitta Rain Boot

For Love & Lemons brings their signature romantic, feminine aesthetic to rainy days with these lace-topped boots. Bonus: this style also comes in a gorgeous pink color!

Sperry Drizzle Knee High Rain Boot

Reminiscent of a traditional English riding boot, this waterproof shoe is perfect for fans of the recent equestrian fashion trend. With Sperry being renowned for the top quality and timelessness of its designs, this under-$100 boot is one that is sure to hold up for years to come. Style with suede leggings, spring skirts, and tailored shorts.

Raincoats and Jackets

Raincoats and jackets: The outerwear no one wants to spend their money on but are an absolute necessity. A great raincoat can not only protect your outfit but actually make it. Before investing in this important seasonal piece, consider which activities bring you out of the house most often. If it’s work, opt for a chic trench. If it’s adventuring, go with something shorter and more durable.

Avec Les Filles Polka Dot Car Coat

Polka dots are back in a big way, and this Avec Les Filles car coat is exactly the kind of rainy-day look that makes people stop and ask where you got it.

Maeve Reversible Hooded Trench Coat

The Maeve reversible trench is basically two coats in one, with a classic hooded silhouette that looks just as polished on a rainy Tuesday as it does any other day.

Everlane Hooded Field Jacket

This piece can not only keep you dry, but add a sense of effortlessness while doing so. It also comes in three beautiful colors and is majority cotton construction. Wear it with jeans and a sweater, or a mini skirt and blouse.

EllandEmm 1989 Classic Trench

This small brand is one of my favorites, and this coat is one I’ve worn on repeat for several years running. The corduroy details and slightly oversized fit set it apart from the pack, while the removable panel allows you to adjust the length based on your height and mood. It’s the optimal spring piece for achieving a 90s, off-duty model look.

London Fog Single Breasted Trench Coat

While wearing a trench is chic in theory, it can sometimes feel like cosplaying as Inspector Gadget. A coat like this style from London Fog assuages those anxieties. The color and silhouette make this jacket an ultra-femme option for springtime showers.

Lisa Says Gah Olson Caped Trench Coat

For a coat that makes a statement, reach for one with a signature feature, such as a cape. This is the exact kind of rainwear all the fashion girls have on their wishlist.

Maeve Retro Floral Cropped Trench Coat

Want more whimsy? Try this floral trench coat for a refreshing pop of color on a dull day.

Damson Madder Matilda Raincoat

Damson Madder has become a must-have brand among the cool girls. And when you look at this coat, it’s not difficult to see why. The warm gingham pattern is modern and demure—well suited for both springtime rainshowers and autumnal adventuring.

Waterproof Bags

There are certainly ways to protect your favorite leather and suede bags. But, if you’re like me, there's still a fear and absolute resistance that comes with taking them out of the house when the sky is dumping water. Having a waterproof bag or two can be freeing, encouraging you to get out of the house on those rainy days without the fear of destroying your favorite accessories.

Lululemon Convertible Crossbody Bag 6.5L

Your phone, your wallet, and your lip gloss will all stay dry and organized in this cute bag. It does all the practical work so you don't have to think about it.

Loeffler Randall Mira Brown Gingham Everyday Tote

A chic brown gingham pattern, inner pockets, and a zipper top makes this tote a practical, stylish piece that can be carried year-round. As a mom, I’m always looking for functional pieces that are also fashionable. This one would make for a chic office accessory as much as it would efficiently house snacks, wipes, and sunscreen at the park.

Lands End Canvas Pocket Tote

I bought a tote from Lands End this past holiday season and it is undoubtedly one of my all-time favorite bags. It’s cute without being pretentious and it’s incredibly useful. Plus, canvas is a great option if you need something rain-proof that doesn’t feel akin to a parachute.

Poppy and Peonies Daily Tote

Vegan leather stands up to the weather like a champ. This beautiful berry bag is practically begging to be paired with a floral umbrella. Honorable mention for the removable crossbody strap and the interior cupholders.

Baggallini Central Park Sling

For the girl who's always on the move. Whether you're logging miles in the rain or chasing kids through a parking lot, this sling keeps everything you need hands-free and dry.

Stop letting rainwear hinder your outfits. Instead, treat spring outerwear as an additional opportunity to step up the way you get dressed. Whether you’re grabbing a whimsical umbrella, donning a chic jacket, or stepping into an eye-catching pair of rain boots, waterproof your outfit and make it more fashionable in one fell swoop.
