Everything Our Style Editor Is Buying During The Black Friday Sales This Year

Although I’ve been writing style content for the past 11 years and love covering the biggest sales each Christmas season, I’m more than a little picky when it comes to the items I click “add to cart” every Black Friday.

Bottom line: When it comes to fashion especially, if you wouldn’t pay full price for the item, don’t buy it on sale. Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday used to have me feeling utterly overwhelmed by the endless possibilities of what I could add to my wardrobe. These sales are wonderful, yes, but they can also trick you into buying clothes that you don’t need or wouldn’t think twice about otherwise. Oftentimes, the impulse purchases you make during the holiday sale season wind up, tags on, hanging lifeless at the back of your closet years later.

So, how do we solve this problem then? As I’ve curated my style aesthetic and closet, I’ve learned what silhouettes flatter my body type, what colors compliment my skin tone, and what clothing staples I gravitate toward most often when getting dressed. Before you begin clicking through every last website that claims to have the best, most awesome, life-changing sale going on this weekend, take a moment to pause and have an honest look at your closet. What do you already have? What pieces have you been missing? What items do you feel most yourself in? Then, if you haven’t made a Christmas wish list yet, open up a little notepad on your phone and jot down 10 items that you’ve been thinking about over the past few months (or even years). Have you always wanted a pair of slingback heels, but never found the right brand? Do you find yourself searching for a nude blazer every few months only to come up short? Is your favorite pair of straight leg jeans starting to sag and fade? Think back to the moments when you’re getting dressed and try to remember any pain points you have. These are the items you should be keeping an eye out for during Black Friday this year.

Now that we’ve got my tips for curating your shopping list out of the way, you can understand how I’ve narrowed down the items that I’ll be purchasing. From a tight-fitted jumpsuit that will fit my growing baby bump (and beyond), to the earrings I’ve been dreaming about for the last two years, here is everything I’m buying during the Black Friday sales this year.

MinkPink Iris Coat

Buy Now - $219

I’ve wanted a beautiful statement coat like this for years now, and I’ve gone through my share of cheap, lookalike versions. Spoiler: not a single one of them has stood the test of time. I’m one of those girls that has a tough time keeping a coat on in the winter because I always feel like it’s ruining my outfit underneath, but this is the type of coat you can wear over anything and still feel effortlessly stylish.

Adidas Originals Swift Run Sneakers

Buy Now - $95

Sneakers are the one thing I’m not afraid to spend money on each year because of how often they get worn for daily walks, running errands, and chasing my little one around the park. Since my white sneakers need a break, I think it’s time to switch things up with a pretty neutral pink version. They won’t get dirty as quickly, and I can trust that Adidas will be comfy enough for everyday wear.

Tuckernuck Baton French Sole Heels

Buy Now - $198

A staple in every stylish French woman’s wardrobe: the color-blocked slingbacks. Since I have accepted that my style aesthetic is very much inspired by the French, it seems that it’s time to invest in a shoe that fits. The low heel on these is extremely practical for someone who used to run around city streets in 6 inch stilettos, and the neutral color combo will be trendy for years to come.

Mejuri Croissant Dome Hoops

Buy Now - $78

Have I searched for the past year in person for a pair that comes close to how beautifully classic this set is? Unfortunately, yes. I’ve finally come to terms with my decision to bite the bullet and order this timeless hoop that every other “it girl” already owns.

The Bella Maternity Bumpsuit

Buy Now - $130

Although this is now my second pregnancy, I have yet to invest in a high-quality jumpsuit and I’ve had my eye on this one from Bumpsuit since it launched. It comes in 4 different colors, and the mauve would normally be my go-to color palette, but I know the black will go with absolutely everything in my closet. I’ll be able to easily style this jumpsuit in casual and dressy settings with the right layers and accessories, and I can’t wait to wear it for the rest of my pregnancy (and beyond).

Skims Cozy Knit Tank and Pant

Knit Tank, $52 | Knit Pant, $88

Call me basic, but the fuzzy Skims pj set just looks so cozy! Since transitioning to working remotely full-time, I have realized the power of a cute, matching loungeset on my mood and productivity, and I have no doubt that this one will quickly become my new favorite.

Heartloom Tammela Trench Coat

Buy Now - $189

Every girl needs a classic trench coat in her capsule wardrobe, and you know what I realized when I took inventory of my closet this year? Somehow, I’ve never owned one. I’ve always envied the stylish women who wore these, but never have been able to find the perfect one myself. However, I know from experience that this brand, Heartloom, makes beautiful, quality clothing (especially coats), so I feel reassured that this trench will be no different.

JW Pei Ruby Black Croc Shoulder Bag

Buy Now - $79

Another thing I’ve recently realized is that, of all of the purses I own, I don’t have a single one in black. Strange, right? This one is the perfect size for running errands or going to dinner, the shape is beautifully unique, and the price isn’t outrageous.

Steve Madden Skinny Dip Legging

Buy Now - $59

Who doesn’t love a pair of stylish leggings? I don’t wear a ton of dark colors and realized that I never wear the black pair of faux leather leggings that I bought years ago, but I love the idea of them for a comfy, chic look in the fall and winter. I fell in love with this color immediately upon seeing it and know it will pair perfectly with my cream sweaters, statement coat, and booties or sneakers.

UGG Raincloud Clear

Buy Now - $130

While the mini Ugg boots that returned to the spotlight this season aren’t quite my style, I’m definitely drooling over these rainboots. They look like the coziest pair of shoes I’ll ever own, and I’m convinced they’ll make rainy days a little brighter (and cuter!).

Closing Thoughts

While your shopping list this Black Friday may be entirely different from mine, hopefully this guide has helped you think through what you really want and need in your wardrobe, and what you feel confident investing in while sales are happening
